A big step down from Portapros? That's news to me, I was thinking about getting canalphone from my Sportapros. I guess I will have to stick with traditional headphones. From what I've read, E2c is small step from MD33/EX71, E3c is big step from all of them.

I compare cans by listening a pair of phones for few days, try various sources, let my ears get used to its sound, and then try the new phones. I can always notice the difference, it is hard to forget the sound quality from previous phones once you get used to it.

It could be the position of your headphone that made the imbalance. Try to position your drivers closer to the entrance of your ear channels, maybe it could help.
