Game Volume vs. Windows Volume
I have read it is better to maximize Windows volume and to do any volume adjustments within the application's own mixer settings or the game's volume sliders. This is supposed to reduce "clipping" and also gives more dynamic range. For headphone users without any external volume controls, I'm...- heymian

Sennheiser HD 700 Impressions Thread
Well the jack must have loosened up then. I tried pulling with my I fingers, pretty hard too. Would not come out. Twisted left and right, then they pulled out. Hence why I thought... I even pulled on the cables real hard with my leg a couple weeks ago on accident when I was getting out of my...- heymian

Sennheiser HD 700 Impressions Thread
So I received my Cardas cable from "the eBay guy": Not ready to make impressions yet since I've been busy with work. One small thing that bothers me is the connectors have no way of locking when you insert them into the headphones. With the stock cables, you can push into the jack and twist...- heymian

Bit-depth in Windows
Before I start, keep in mind I'm strictly speaking about bit-depth only. Sampling rates, upsampling, resampling, etc. are a whole different discussion. I've read you should preferably match your bit-depth (in Windows) to the source you're listening to. For example, if you're listening to a CD...- heymian

Sennheiser HD 700 Impressions Thread
The first time I booted up Battlefield 4 with HD700's, the soundscape was so immersive it was unreal. Hearing a helicopter hover over me, that distinct low pitch sound of blades cutting through air, was eerily realistic. I do see a lot of people using DTXXX's but even moreso the HD598's and...- heymian

Here is my cosmetic modification: I added a ModMic 4.0. Now I'm bragging to all my friends in TeamSpeak about having "the best headset" but I can't shake this feeling that I've somehow... defiled my HD700's. In case anyone wants to know what a ModMic is: http://youtu.be/RPFW8Ga2qqU- heymian

Sennheiser HD 700 Impressions Thread
The only Cardas cable I've found for HD 700 is some guy selling em' on Ebay. I guess he buys the copper from Cardas and uses his own plugs and jackets. $249.99 vs the "Black Dragon" from Moon Audio which is almost $400.00.- heymian

Anyone using aftermarket cables with the HD 700? I saw some from Moon Audio but they cost almost as much as the headphone (ok?). If yes, how has the sound improved for you?- heymian

Xonar ST: 600 or 250 Ohm Beyerdynamics?
Using a ASUS Xonar ST sound card with integrated headphone amp. The headphone amp is rated to drive up to 600 ohms. Looking to pair the sound card up with some Beyerdynamics headphones (DT880's or DT990's, haven't decided). Leaning towards the 600 ohm versions to maximize the...- heymian

Sennheiser HD595 Impressions Thread
Hey all, I've been eyeing the HD595's for a while now and have noticed Amazon dropped the price on these to $139.99 USD (they were $165 a few days ago). After reading the entirety of this thread, they seem like the right cans for me so I went ahead and ordered. I'm pretty eager to try...- heymian

DAC + AMP for 30 bucks?!?
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I've read a several reviews and everything checks out good. The only bad thing I've seen mentioned are that the drivers are a little glitchy. I'm most curious about this headphone amp. It's a Texas Instruments' DRV601RTJR and has three gain settings, > 32...- heymian

Need suggestions on a new set of cans
It's too bad the HD650's are out of my price range. I still have to buy an amp or an amped soundcard. Saving money and purchasing later is always an option but I'd prefer not to. I've been without a good set of cans for a few months now.- heymian

DAC + AMP for 30 bucks?!?
This sounds too good to be true: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829132020&Tpk=asus%20xonar%20dg It's a soundcard with a built-in headphone amp. And it's only $30.00 USD. It also has a $10 mail-in rebate so that would make the final price $20. I've read...- heymian
