wow this is my identical situation, did you ever find what to upgrade to? what would be considered a solid upgrade from the ad700s along the same lines as the 580?- dotapples

Closed Headphones, no amp, ~$200
If you're really patient I know amazon has an awsome return policy where I've heard many people buying multiple headphones and returning them. Quote:- dotapples

yep +1 for the ad700s. most comfortable headphones ever, so it's perfect for those long gaming sessions- dotapples

Good DAC for PC (music) and Xbox 360 (games)?
the mixamp is great for console gaming, I tried it out for music and it wasn't that great although I was comparing it to my ef2 so I guess that's a bit skewed- dotapples

mixamp with m50's
I think the intro price doesn't end for a while, I'm in the same boat as you as I just returned the wired version. hoping I made the right choice and the wireless quality gets good reviews. There's some out right now but rather trust actual users- dotapples

Just how bad is AD700's lack of bass? Can it be fixed with EQ?
Kind of off topic but how is our e9/e7 driving your dt990s? do you also use it purely straight plugged into the mixamp also? I can't imagine that powering it enough Quote:- dotapples

HD-555 vs Audio Technica M50
I'd vote for the m50 also after a quick try with them. I've had the hd555 for a few years and I could never wear them for long periods of time as it clamped a bit too hard on my head even after 4 years of use. Sound and everything was great but I could never get over the comfort issue- dotapples
