Review by 'Maxxtro' on item 'Grado SR80i Headphones'

So I wanted to buy some better-than-average headphones for listen to my music at night.   On my search I found this forum. I read and read and read. Beyerdynamic - maybe too much bass, Sennheiser - too expensive, AKG - require a too expensive amplifier and so on. But Grado - made for rock...

Completely noob question, how to measure DC offset - advice needed

Well, do you have a Voltmeter with DC-mode? If so, that would be a good starting point!

    CMoy for AKG K601s?

Another question about my headphone amp:   Before the 4556 on the input there is a high-pass with a -3db attenuation at 2.8Hz, made with a cheap 47µF capacitor and a 1.2k resistor. After the 4556 there is another filter with a maxiumum of 10Hz made with a high quality Elna 100µF capacitor...

    Sub 200$ Headphones?

So the graphs tell me, that Grado SR80i / SR225i have even less bass than the K601s... but why are less people arguing about not enough bass by the Grados than by the AKGs?

    CMoy for AKG K601s?

They are 100µF / 25V Elna Silmic II.   Well... could i build a CMoy and put a Diamond Buffer as used for the PPA v2 at its Output?       Edit: Oh and I justed looked on the Grado Website; they are using the 4556, which is specified to a minimum of 150ohm load with their 32ohm...

    CMoy for AKG K601s?

Well if that is the truth...  I´ll just listen throug the output of my CD player, which is based on exactly that Chip! Only thing i see which is a little bit ... not looking too good is the slew rate of just 3V/µs?

    CMoy for AKG K601s?

Hello!   Would be a well-built CMoy with a wall-powered supply and big buffer-capacitors be good enough to drive the 120-Ohms AKG K601s?   I know that the are obviously pretty hard to amp due to the fact that the need a lot of current but with some big capacitors...?     Greetings...

    Sub 200$ Headphones?

No I´ll only listen from a CD-Player with a seperate Amp.   But anyway you wouldn´t recommend them i see...     Edit: Oh and I´ve just started to read on headphones.com and I´ve immediately seen the frequency response graph of the Denon AH-D2000 / Audio Technica ATH A700 and... wow...
