AKG K550 - NEW!!
Quote: I see it as a more refined K271, with better isolation maybe. And despite the low impedance, the reviewer does say that a portable player is not enough to get the better of it. They're a bit expensive at almost 400 $ (AKG UK website - edit: and 249$ in the US? What the..), but...- zomg

Is this the incoming Shure Open-backed Headphone
Quote: It really depends of the size and shape of your skull. I had the problem with the 840s, and after a few months it was gone; then I had the 940s and that was still there so I actually didn't get used to it, there really is a construction issue with these headbands. Now they're...- zomg

Is this the incoming Shure Open-backed Headphone
Count me interested. Hopefully they'll sound more "right" than the srh940s with classical. They could be quite expensive, though, looks like they have a lot of metal parts, and that's a bit unusual with Shure.- zomg

AKG K601 & K612 Pro Owners... UNITE!!
That would really be a shame. They're great HPs, especially for classical (I'm starting to like them over my k501s; well, I was until I had no more sound coming from the left). Also, I'm taking note of your advice, tdockweiler, but does the price difference is really justified? I mean, they're...- zomg

Headphones for Movie Scores/ Classical/ Symphonies
If you can't find k501s, the k601s handle classical pretty well (soundstage is a bit smaller and there is a bit more bass - I have both). Maybe you should consider the k701/2 too (I never heard them tho). Anyway, I think those AKG's are great for orchestral music due to being very airy sounding...- zomg

Shure SRH 940 impression and support thread
I agree that the plastics they used for the 840's feels (and looks) better and superior. I kinda like the 840's headband more. However, some parts look studier (the articulated ones, mostly) on the 940's. I'll add that the comfort doesn't really look improved: I have the exact same problem...- zomg

Shure SRH 940 impression and support thread
Just got mine. I dont think they lack bass in any way (not a basshead tho). I listened to some Sepultura (Roots) and the bass level was perfect (I clearly can't describe them as bass shy there). I'm currently trying some classical (Zarathustra by Prévin and Brahms Piano concerto 2...- zomg

Shure 840 vs Shure 940
I don't have both, but I do have the 840s and I'm currently waiting for the 940s, so I payed attention to the comparisons. All I can say is that the 840's are great HP, but there's a midbass hump who can be annoying with classical; I ordered the 940's for more details, accuracy and neutrality...- zomg

Shure SRH 840 Exposed Cable Questions
I don't do anything. Actually I don't think you can damage them just by moving the cups since they're long enough to move along. I guess you have to be carefull if you're traveling with them tho.- zomg

Some sort of organized flowchart for newbies deciding on headphones? (Drawing inside)
Well, that's one of my main concerns, I like sturdy HP; but I was thinking of this graph more like a sound oriented tool, since it's more difficult to appreciate. I guess it depends on who will use it: most head-fiers are already aware of the built quality of various brands (shure vs grado for...- zomg

Some sort of organized flowchart for newbies deciding on headphones? (Drawing inside)
I like the idea. However, I think you could implement more entries: you could use the font color to indicate the warmth/coloration (darkness?) of the sound and some kind of symbol (something like that ****) to rate the soundstage. Perhaps also something about the level of details as well. ...- zomg

AKG K501 love...
Got back with the stock pads finally, something is'nt right with the k601s ones. Tried some rock/metal. Is the "lack" of bass the only reason why people say they're not made for these genres? Because so far I don't think they're bad, like not bad at all (I'm no bass head, quite the opposite)...- zomg

AKG K501 love...
Just got my pair. I'm currently running some tests with classical music: so far I prefer the k601 pads obviously for the comfort, and I feel like they add some weight to the sound that I felt was missing with the stock pads. However, for me the k601 foam donut tend to make the sound a bit...- zomg

Vintage Philips N6330: sextett look-alike made in Austria by AKG
I know, even I could ear the difference when I tried the N6330's directly from my receiver, the horror... the horror... But it's satisfying out of the E9; (I was refering to the k601's because they both need to go around 9'o clock, although I don't know if that really means something). ...- zomg

Vintage Philips N6330: sextett look-alike made in Austria by AKG
I'm now listening to them with my replacement SRH840's pads (they don't fit, the clamp keeps them here) and they sound great. I will probably order the K240's ones from Thomann. I believe you didn't like the velvet pads for the Sextetts, IIRC? (as for 2) I'm using a FiiO E9 who works...- zomg

Vintage Philips N6330: sextett look-alike made in Austria by AKG
I was about write about how bad they sounded, their recessed highs and that muddy/muffled bass, until I had the idea to try them without the earpads. Seriously, I don't now what are these, but they are terrible sound-wise. So now I guess I'm searching for earpads for them not to sound like trash.- zomg

Vintage Philips N6330: sextett look-alike made in Austria by AKG
Just got them. Obviously, these things have been rusting in some dark place for some time, but they're in good condition - cable connection suffered a little, it feels a little weak and the philips logo will have to be glued back. The foam isn't covering everything and let appear some of the...- zomg
