Vinyl vs Redbook in 2015
I've spent most of my weekend reading through a couple of these drawn-out vinyl vs. digital threads. My stance has never been that vinyl was technically superior to digital, because I totally understand how it simply ISN'T. That being said, I have collected some because I get a sense of space in...- jtaylor991

Lyrics and your music listening habits
I've noticed how, when I listen to music, I base whether I like it or not based on how I vibe with it, if you know what I mean. I find myself not really listening to the lyrics of pretty much any music besides hip hop. I kinda can't really unless I'm specifically listening to music by itself...- jtaylor991

Ubuntu/Linux and USB DACs
So, I'm running Ubuntu 12.10, and I want to use my PS Audio DLIII DAC with it. I have my Audio-gd Compass on my desktop (Ubuntu 12.10) and it shows it as a USB Audio DAC with a digital output. On my laptop (also Ubuntu 12.10) my DLIII shows as a PCMxxx (random numbers) device (or something like...- jtaylor991

The "Can Opener"
Has anyone ever used this? Thoughts? I know people make special cables for HE-6s for speaker taps and stuff, I wonder how good this thing would work. http://vinylflat.com/canopener.html- jtaylor991

FLAC Network streamer for my stereo rig setup
I've read about the Squeezebox Touch and it seemed good to me, until someone mentioned to download some app (E something O, 3 letters) that greatly increased the sound quality when outputting to a DAC. I hate seeing things like this, it seems like there's no way to digitally output sound to a...- jtaylor991

Windows 8...
Well let's start a thread about this. I'll say that I used Windows 8 Dev Preview on my desktop and just plain hated it. Very hard to navigate, and have tabbed browsing etc. I heard that there are actual performance improvements too, so maybe there's a 3rd party thing to default to the...- jtaylor991

Good portable player with line out?
I'm looking to upgrade from my phone (Windows Phone with 8gb internal and 16gb MicroSD, takes up to 32 but I'll fill that up quickyl too so I wanna get a dedicated player) to a good portable media player, maybe for <$150 or so. I could use a Zune 80/120, but I'm worried about having a line out...- jtaylor991

Converting FLAC to WMA Lossless
I am doing this for my Windows Phone and Zune. I used to rip CDs to FLAC using dbPowerAmp and then use db to convert FLAC to WMAL to have both, but I recently switched to EAC for ripping since it's so much easier to add tags to the CDs (I can add song titles etc. before ripping instead of doing...- jtaylor991

How do you guys buy your music?
I'm just curious. Do you buy digital? If so, from where? CDs? Used or new? Where, online or at a store? Vinyl? New or used? Online, or at a store or local record shop? Me, I buy a lot of digital stuff on bandcamp.com , a great place for indie artists. They have FLAC too! For CDs, I...- jtaylor991

Koss Porta Pro vs Porta Pro KTC (with the in-line remote)
Is there a notable difference? I didn't find anything with a glance over soem searh results and was just curious. I'd rather have the ones with the remote in case I own an iPod in the near future (or something else the remote happens to be compatible with).- jtaylor991

Sennheiser HD650 Appreciation Thread pt 2!
I hope I'm not breaking any rules and mean no disrespect, but I think we still oughta have a 650 appreciation thread. Let's get back on topic guys.... Jude (if you see this), what's your opinion/thoughts of the 650s? Do you own a pair? I don't have much of a basis for comparison but...- jtaylor991

Cleaning Vinyl
I've been talking with a fellow member here about a brush for my records. I have a Spin Clean for a good cleaning of the records after I get them, and I would probably use the brush before and after play. I'm sure some of you are familiar with the Audioquest and Hunt carbon-fiber brushes (the...- jtaylor991

Pioneer SE-50 pads?
Does anyone know where I can get some new pads for my Pioneer SE-50 headphones? I want to see how well I can get them to fit me, as they pretty much just hang on ym head, like they almost swing if I lean forward. They are black, oval shaped ones. So holding them vertically, up and...- jtaylor991

Desktop Speakers vs Monitors
I could use some computer speakers. I have some $20 Altec Lansing's that work fine but maybe someday I'll want more. I was wondering, why buy desktop speakers over monitors (active monitors and speakers, I don't wanna get into buying amps) or vice versa? I liked the review of the Emotive Pro...- jtaylor991

New Idea for Subscription option
There are some threads where I want to post info or an idea, but don't want to have to subscribe to all posts in the thread. There ought to be a way to subscribe to a thread to the point where you are only notified if your post is quoted or given a thumbs up. While I'm on it, I'd kinda like to...- jtaylor991

PS Audio DLIII for $520
Should I go for it? I already placed a bid but I'm having second thoughts. Is it really worth that? I'd be coming from an iBasso D4 Mamba so it's a giant upgrade. I don't get to listen so much but when I do I like it really nice so I need help on this decision. Is this a great deal for this DAC?- jtaylor991

Upscaling low quality audio
I have seen things that somehow do this like the Marantz NA7004 with its M-DAX2 chip (http://us.marantz.com/us/Products/Pages/ProductDetails.aspx?CatId=HiFiComponents&SubCatId=0&ProductId=NA7004). Is there a product specifically for this that goes between the DAC and amp?- jtaylor991

Audio-GD NFB-10SE and NFB-2 DACs
What's the big difference between the *DAC part* in the Audio-gd NFB-10SE and the NFB-2? Is the NFB-2 just better with the same DAC chips because it is discrete and with a better power supply (I'd assume it does have a better one being separate)? If the 10SE is only that much more with the same...- jtaylor991

National RS-7768 Reel to Reel Deck/Player worth $70?
I found one on craigslist: http://kansascity.craigslist.org/ele/2547936311.html Is this thing worth $70 USD ($10 for gas to come 20min to me)? Should I get it? Tapes seem to be found cheap like $5-$10 on ebay nowadays. There was a fully restored TEAC at my local vinyl store for $700...- jtaylor991

Darkvoice 337 as speaker preamp?
I have a Darkvoice 337 for sale that I'm not using, and I just thought of using it as a preamp for my stereo, since it has preamp outputs. My setup is a JVC R-X500 1980s computer controlled stereo receiver, and a set of Polk Audio Monitor 10s. I just read a thread on this and trouble with...- jtaylor991

HM-801 vs Algorhythm Solo+iPod Rig vs WhipMOD
I've read about all three of these. I would get the Hm 801, but the iPod probably has the edge in battery life and no doubt UI. So, I was wondering which one of the three is higher in sound quality and clarity? I have an iBasso D4 Mamba for an amp and a Klipsch Image S4 pair of IEMs. IEMs will...- jtaylor991
