    Review : AUDINST HUD-MX1 DAC/amp - a promising newcomer (compared to Audio-gd FUN, AMB Gamma2)

OK, I have an official information from Audinst / Ji-Hoon Kim about the volume pot: We recommend that you turn the Windows up to maximum volume, and let the analog volume be set to the direction in over 9 o'clock. So much the better if you set to the direction in over 11-12 o'clock.

    Review : AUDINST HUD-MX1 DAC/amp - a promising newcomer (compared to Audio-gd FUN, AMB Gamma2)

I am under Windows 7 and it says: "SPDIF Interface".    BTW Audinst support has just replied and they are sending me a new power adapter, no questions asked! I wish I had experience like this with all computer related brands...

    Review : AUDINST HUD-MX1 DAC/amp - a promising newcomer (compared to Audio-gd FUN, AMB Gamma2)

Of course my redbook audio CD will always stay 16 bit no matter what I do, but if I had a 16 bit dac then a 50% volume control would loose half the bit depth, making it only a 15-bit DAC. With 24-bit DAC I don't care if I loose 1 out of 8 unused zeroes, I still have enough room for the music...

    Review : AUDINST HUD-MX1 DAC/amp - a promising newcomer (compared to Audio-gd FUN, AMB Gamma2)

Just before purchasing mine last week, I have read numerous reviews and someone mentioned that it's better than uDAC-2.

    Review : AUDINST HUD-MX1 DAC/amp - a promising newcomer (compared to Audio-gd FUN, AMB Gamma2)

So you say if I listen at 9 o'clock than it shouldn't be a problem?   A different question: since me adapter is DOA now I am using a 12 V brick I had for an external LG DVD burner (quite a big brick, but only 2 A). Do you think the DAC would be more optimal with a 15 V or a 18 V adapter? I...

    Review : AUDINST HUD-MX1 DAC/amp - a promising newcomer (compared to Audio-gd FUN, AMB Gamma2)

I personally don't beleive that when listening on a 24-bit soundcard/DAC, there could be any _noticable_ difference between 100% and 50%. In theory, yes, it's not bit-perfect at 50%, but in real life, there is still 23 bits to represent the music, which is way higher than human ear / music...

    Review : AUDINST HUD-MX1 DAC/amp - a promising newcomer (compared to Audio-gd FUN, AMB Gamma2)

I received mine 10 minutes ago! I cannot write, it's sound is just soo beautyful!   The AC adapter in mine was broken, but it works well with both USB power and a 12 V adapter I found at home. I hope Audinst sends me a new adapter.   The sound is soo nice! In my opinion, the resampling...

    Teradak Teralink-X2 released 19.1.10

Can someone provide me with some additional information regarding the windows driver of the Teralink? I hope soon I receive my Audinst HUD-MX1 I have just ordered, so I can experiment with the Tenor driver on the Audinst (to see if it works, and if yes, with what performance):   - Does this...

    Bit accurate sound from USB?

You are almost there, except that reducing volume is something like multiplying with a number between 0 and 1, let's say 0.8. And think about padded bits as decimal places available. So at 16-bit padded to 16-bit you have only integers. But at 16-bits padded to 24-bit you have room for the...

    Bit accurate sound from USB?

Mathematically you are right, but human ear is not resolving over 18-19 bit. And even in a high resolution music, the bits over 20 bit are mostly just noise. That's why for example on a 24 bit music, dithering has no effect because you are essentialy modifying the 24th bit, which no one can...

    Bit accurate sound from USB?

Of course we use the volume knob, but all what you say is just the phenomenon that classical music albums are usually much more quiet than pop CDs. But what I say is that if you can only have 16-bits to play with, then you shouldn't alter the sound digitally, you should only put any volume...

    Bit accurate sound from USB?

I have read the article in post #4. For me, it's clear that any kind of well mastered CD would never produce this clipping. In the part where it says that "how to prevent..." it says that it's a one click switch in Ozone for example, so i would think that this whole problem is part of every...

Yet another "What Should I Buy" Headphone amp / DAC thread

Thank you for your reply, the point where you say that it has better sound with SPDIF than with USB is the one which concerned me the most. Because from what I researched, it's the case with every DAC which uses the cheap 16/48 USB 1.1 receivers. As all my music is in lossless files now and I...

    Bit accurate sound from USB?

OK, but even if the problem does exist, what you say is that all external CD transports or any standalone CD players must have the same error, don't you? They usually have no circuit before the DAC chip which would do any kind of digital volume or gain control. So what you say is that every...

    Bit accurate sound from USB?

Can someone explain me why is it good to do a -3 db gain to a lossless source? If I play a Redbook CD in a many thousand dollar expensive TRANSPORT, then what happens exactly? I think there is no -3 db gain at all! Or is there?   I don't get that for example if there is any SPDIF signal...

Yet another "What Should I Buy" Headphone amp / DAC thread

Sorry, it's not bad, all I wanted to write, is that it has a "cheap" USB 1.1 receiver, which gives only 16 bit/48 khz support and more jitter then a "well implemented" USB receiver, like the one found in Audinst, which gives lower jitter and full 24/96 support.   But you are right, maybe the...

    My list of recommended DACs

Thanks for this list project86!   Could you help me which sub $200 DAC (+amp) should I decide to use with a Windows 7 based laptop with only USB ports (no SPDIF or optical), and with a AD700 headphone? I know it's not a serious setup, but I liked the AD700 sound for classical music and jazz...

Yet another "What Should I Buy" Headphone amp / DAC thread

I am in a really similar situation. I have an AD700 which I really liked with my PC with a semi-pro sound card, but now I am using a laptop which has an internal soundcard which I can just not listen to. No matter how hard I try, listening to music by the internal sound card just makes me...

WAV player or USB soundcards for sound quality

Back on topic, qusp or someone who understands my problem, what kind of component would you recommend? At the moment I am looking for something strictly under $200, which must contain everything I need to get decent music from my AD700. I spent many hours reading these forums and I have...

WAV player or USB soundcards for sound quality

Maybe on your card the driver is so polished that ASIO and WASAPI do sound the same, but on my card the difference is so big that I just left my trusty old XP 64 just because of this.   What I cannot understand is that why still no one with proper recording equipment recorded the analogue...

WAV player or USB soundcards for sound quality

Quote:   I have no idea of how do they sound, I just felt from the review that: - for the money they contain a resonably good DAC and amp and battery in a small package, presenting a SQ which I could only possibly get for much more if purchased separately. - I kind of believe that in...

WAV player or USB soundcards for sound quality

At the moment I am listening to an AD700 directly from my Terratec DMX 6Fire soundcard. I like the sound, the volume is never on the max, but this headphone is just so so lifeless for some kind of music, albeit fantastic for other kinds, like for piano, or small formations of jazz and baroque...

Asus Xonar DX or used Terratec DMX 6fire (or M-Audio Audiophile)

I have been using a Terratec DMX 6fire for years, and I am pretty happy by how it sounds. I have been reading a lot when I bought it years ago and it really didn't let me down since then. It has some driver problems under 64-bit XP, but I can use it with 88.2 khz upsampling in 24 bit ASIO in...

    which non-oversampling USB DAC?

From the website of USB plus, I've read that they are doing USB > Spdif > I2S conversion, hence you got better quality using their standard inputs. Do you feed them from a CDP or from a soundcard?
