I have been using a Terratec DMX 6fire for years, and I am pretty happy by how it sounds. I have been reading a lot when I bought it years ago and it really didn't let me down since then. It has some driver problems under 64-bit XP, but I can use it with 88.2 khz upsampling in 24 bit ASIO in Foobar. I know it's not a really well known card, years ago it was usually compared to M-Audio Audiophile 2496, and most reviews said it performed about the same.

My question now is that I have to buy a new card and I have two choices.
1. Buy a used DMX 6fire (or M-Audio Audiophile 2496), or for a bit more money,
2. Buy a new Asus Xonar DX.

I know years has passed and everything is better and shinier now, but I don't feel that most hardware parts really became so good, as the boxes/review sites say about them. Gaming is not important, only stereo sound quality with decent ASIO drivers. What do you suggest, shiny new Xonar DX, or good old serious cards?
