Project Ember review
Worth noting that the Ember was originally designed by a certain F.P. de Gruijter and then marketed by Garage1217, so Frans should get at least some credit for the design. I have another amp designed by him and it's served me extremely well over the past few years.- JoetheArachnid

London Meet - Saturday 27th April
Not sure I can make it depending on how busy I am, but if there were to be an Orpheus confirmed to be in attendance... that might swing things.- JoetheArachnid

FiiO Mont Blanc/E12 portable headphone amp, 880mW, slim design, full metal case. Bass boost and Cross feed!
Sorry if this has been already asked somewhere (I checked back ~5 pages) but is there anywhere to buy the E12 in the UK/Europe yet? Customs fees for orders from the US is something I'd rather not have to deal with right now. I haven't been following the development of this amp like I did with...- JoetheArachnid

[IMPRESSIONS] UK Head-Fi Meet September 15th 2012 - Cambridge
Quote: Well that's a bugger then! Thanks for your kind offer but sadly I'll be moving to university in a few days and don't know what my future address will be and probably won't have much time to listen to amps for a few weeks anyway. Since the amp was at the meet, does anybody have any... -
[IMPRESSIONS] UK Head-Fi Meet September 15th 2012 - Cambridge
Quote: Was one of the missing amps the Sicphones silicon carbide amp? I remembered it being mentioned in the original thread and looked around for it at the meet but didn't see it anywhere. It's pretty distinctive looks-wise. I'm vaguely thinking about a getting the DIY kit from Kickstarter... -
UK 2012 Head-Fi Meet - September 15th Cambridgeshire.
Quote: Memo to self: never, ever decide to give someone a lift to a train station in an unknown city in the dark with no kind of streetmap. We were lost in Cambridge for a bloody long time because of you. (Also only got home about the same time you did.) Many thanks to Andy for...- JoetheArachnid

Quote: I tend to magically turn my CDs into FLAC files using a computer. If you're looking to (legally) get hold of FLAC files you'll have trouble outside of offbeat services like Bandcamp that offer a variety of formats or audiophile-specific services like HDTracks. For me, buying the...- JoetheArachnid

The FiiO X3 Thread UPDATE: Project Back On! Read the First Post for Information.
As long as the X3 is less than the size of the iPhone 4, bigger than a handful of walnuts, has 3 separate headphone outs (including one with a tube stage, one with a class A solid-state amp and one with a 2.5mm socket, weighs exactly 98.6 grams, has asychronous USB, coax in and out, Toslink in...- JoetheArachnid

FiiO E11 Review - Loud Things Come In Small Packages
I rarely find anything that I listen to above 3 on the volume knob on low gain. Even with the 150ohm RE-262s I find that I'm generally only on about 2.5. The only thing I have that needs more power is the 600ohm K240DF, and that's not really a fair comparison. I've never heard Superluxes...- JoetheArachnid

So is the situation now that we need to 'order' a t-shirt before the meet, or that you'll have some stock to hand? Either way, I suppose my expressing an interest in a medium wouldn't hurt...- JoetheArachnid

UK 2012 Head-Fi Meet - September 15th Cambridgeshire.
I'd be perfectly willing to write some detailed impressions on it, though I'd need a reasonable amount of head-time and wouldn't want to be hogging it from any other people! It would also be good to make sure that the source/headphones can be changed easily so that people can get balanced...- JoetheArachnid

Well crikey, I go off on a train voyage across Europe, Siberia and Asia to Japan for one and a half months and I come back to find that you've all been given £5000 worth of prizes out of Andy's pocket whilst I've been gone. I've also had confirmation of my first choice university place today, so...- JoetheArachnid

Denon Officially Announces Its New Headphones!
Quote: Don't know about the US or other places but HMV in the UK seem to commonly have D2000s, HD 558 and similar entry-level hifi headphones in their demo section alongside the ubiquitous Beats and Skullcandy. Even before I came here I was aware that Denon were a respected audio brand.- JoetheArachnid

Would the A-B test be blind or sighted? (ie whether you know which component is being used when or you don't.) That could have a fairly significant effect on results.- JoetheArachnid
