Check out Pagan Alter's "Mythical and Magical", probably the best folk metal album I have ever listened to. Same with Slough Feg's "Down Among the Deadmen", which could be technically classified as folk.

 

Anything associated with nu-metal, metalcore, or anything that claims to be "modern metal". They are all waste which give the genre a bad name.

Metal is a very wide genre, it is hard seeing it as one whole thing when there are some many forms of it.
