Fiio EX1 2nd Gen
I'm lucky with the shape of my ear canals. I can get a seal with practically ANY tips. I used to use trimmed Etymotic tri-flange tips on my Shure, Ety, and UE IEMS. I should have waited a few days to comment. Either they broke in a bit or my ears got used to them. They have balanced out a bit...- Ingo

If you still love Etymotic ER4, this is the thread for you...
I do not have my Etys anymore but they, along with the UE Super.Fi 5Pro, were the best in-ears I have tried. Flash forward a decade and I'm REALLY satisfied with the $60 Fiio EX1 gen2. They aren't Etys but they are satisfying for their cost. Miss the sweet midrange of both the UE and Etys but I...- Ingo

Fiio EX1 2nd Gen
Just bought these. Take these comments with a grain of salt because I have not been able to hook them up to a high-quality source and they will be paired with my Samsung GS7 for work, mainly. I'm a bit surprised by the sound. From the descriptions I've read these should NOT be bass-heavy/boomy...- Ingo

Best recorded albums of all time?
I'm a big fan of all his singing and I like all of the albums but I listen to 'Till the Sun Turns Black' most. As a recording/producing achievement, I think 'Ouroboros' is pretty great, though. It's obvious Pink Floyd inspiration extended beyond the musical composition, imo. -
Best recorded albums of all time?
A newer entry that blows me away (especially the LP through my system) is Ray LaMontagne - Ouroboros. -
Kings of Leon... Yay or Nay?
I'm going to guess that's not much love here for them, lol. -
Physical Media Or Download.
I have some LPs that sound soooo good and only a few CDs that are WOW but really I just don't have the time and energy to be an audiophile anymore. Streamed music has come so far and I have access to so much music driving around in my truck with Spotify or Amazon Music. It's not critical... -
Physical Media Or Download.
I've gone full-circle and now appreciate both. I started amassing a CD collection after high school and several hundred albums in I decided to start buying LPs mainly to play on the 60's/70's stereo gear I was buying/fixing/selling. I bought a few hundred vinyl albums but only a handful that... -
Kings of Leon... Yay or Nay?
For some reason I wrote them off a long time ago but I hear a song once in a while that has me pull up an album for a listen. Listening to 'Mechanical Bull' right now. Something I might throw on when driving several hours right before I start to fall asleep and switch to Pantera - Vulgar... -
Impressed with onboard sound of new Haswell PC
I just picked up a Dell box mainly for my wife to be able to work from home. I threw my FLAC collection on it and setup Foobar the other day and when I plugged my Grados in I was pleasantly surprised. This onboard audio sounds much better to my ears than the old Realtek 97 audio on my old PC...- Ingo

Superfi5 Pros Reshell
I also think the Super.fi 5Pros were the best IEMs that I tried. I haven't tried a new pair sinse the Triple.Fi came out, but they didn't do it for me either. I tried the Shure e2, e3, e4, e5, SE215. I had and loved the Etymotic ER4s, but still for most music the Super.fis were easier to listen...- Ingo

NEED A SIMPLE DAC TO CONNECT HDTV TO STEREO RECEIVER
My grandparents just bought a new Samsung HDTV and it doesn't have any analog audio outputs. I was kinda shocked but i guess this makes sense to a company that wants to sell home-theater implements along with their TVs. Is the a cheap DAC that will let me do optical and decode whatever the TV...- Ingo

Any recommendations for a good turntable?
I would not limit the search to only manual Japanese direct drives. There are very good auto and semi-auto tables to be had for next to nothing. I have a Technics SL-1210 that now gathers dust because I like my JVC JL-F50 much better. It is not a matter of the JVC SOUNDING BETTER, IT'S A MATTER...- Ingo

Journey From Headphone to Vintage Audio
Quote: I haven't paid more than $60 for any individual piece of my vinatage gear. It's really awesome to be able to have this good of sound on my shoestring budget. I really put a lot of effort into checking Goodwills and other thrift shops on a regular basis. I ususally go 4-5 times a...- Ingo

Journey From Headphone to Vintage Audio
Head-Fi really opened up Audio as a hobby to me. I started off here after I bought a Rio Karma and was looking into new headphones, as many people do. For a long time I was content with my nice IEMs and a portable music player. Then I got the itch to build a "PC as Source" setup with a dedicated...- Ingo

SQ of Old Clip v New Clip+
I went from a Fuze to a Clip+. I think the sound is a little bit different. A friend recently gave me some Etymotic ER4Ps and I was a little suprised when I tried them out with the Clip+ and found that the player was, to my ears, significantly darker sounding than the Fuze. I haven't ABed them...- Ingo
