Someone with a portable SPL meter should take some readings at their local theater and post them- I'd be interested to know how loud they actually are.  I know I am usually uncomfortable with the volume at theaters and have had to plug my ears on occasion too.

Adam,   The connector for the SRH 840 cable is proprietary (i.e. generic cable connectors won't work with it) so as far as I know, you're stuck with the Shure cables.  If you're handy with a soldering iron you could cut the cable and re-terminate it with the same connector, but that is the...
