iTunes 8 SQ much better
Apologies in advance if I'm posting in the wrong forum: Perhaps it's just the placebo effect, but I think that iTunes 8 seems to have much better SQ than what I remember with v7.7. Voices and instruments seem to have more air, soundstage seems greater and dynamics seem wider. I'm using a...- GeeMan

Recommend me some phenomenal vocals
Petra Magoni. A classically-trained singer who now sings a range of jazz, aria, and pop accompanied by double-bassist Ferruccio Spinetti. Look for album Musica Nuda (literally "Naked Music"), Musica Nuda 2 or the new one (on Blue Note) Musica Nuda 55/21. If you can find the Live In Paris DVD... -
flac to apple lossless?
I use Switch. Switch will also convert FLACs (or most any other sound file formats) to just about any file format you can think of - AAC, OGG, ATRAC, etc HTH- GeeMan

DAP vs. Turntable?
"Newer" doesn't always mean "better". In terms of digital versions of (originally) analogue inventions, "newer" often means "worse" - but with the benefit of convenience. OK, at this point I have to admit that I'm one of those people who prefer the sound from black disks to those from silver...- GeeMan

HD650 right ear stopped working!!
If you've already checked the connection where the cable meets the earpiece, try plugging them into something that uses a full-sized headphone jack (hi-fi amp, receiver, etc.) Maybe the little 3.5mm->6.0mm (or whatever that translates into for imperial..) cord is shot. Let's hope that's all...- GeeMan

Xin supermini IV vs. Portaphile V2^2 Maxxed
Xin all the way. A maxxed-out Portaphile is a very capable amp. However, the SuperMini is physically smaller, offers a wider soundstage, and has more upgrade potential (op-amps and buffers). Xin amps always sounded pretty good, but these new versions are just awesome. The SuperMini, like...- GeeMan

Sibilance on iPod 4g even with ALO and Amp
As noted here, I'd bet that the CD is question is the culprit. More and more CDs today are mastered "hot" to sound more noticeable on the radio. I'd also say that your headphones are quite unforgiving at the top end. I use a 4G iPod Photo with an Audiolineout LOD (Cardas) to a Xin Supermini and...- GeeMan

Samsung wins deal to supply future Ipod chipsets.
I thought I read that the deal with Samsung was the supply of chips for flash-memory based iPods only. AFAIK PortalPlayer will still supply chips for the HD-based iPods - at least for the time being... Unless, of course, all next-gen iPods are to be flash-based (how much would 80 gigs of...- GeeMan
