Upgrade Audio Technica AD700 to A900X?
I have owned the Audio Technica ATH-AD700 (open air) cans for a few years now and have been very satisfied. They have a wide stage with great mids and sound crisp and clear overall. Recently I cam across a good deal for the newer A900X closed headphones. Will the A900X be a substantial...- fire2havoc

Problem with Auzentech X-Fi Forte Sound Card
Quote: I think it may be my old case. Anyway, I will need a dedicated headphone out... The Essence STX has this and the Xonar does not. Hopefully Auzentech will provide a reasonable level of customer support.- fire2havoc

Problem with Auzentech X-Fi Forte Sound Card
Not sure that I know how to replace the capacitors, nor would I want to try. I am also a bit hesitant about RMAing this card as I am likely out of my warranty period and I have read horror stories about Auzen support (months to get back a repaired card, if at all). Maybe I should...- fire2havoc

Problem with Auzentech X-Fi Forte Sound Card
I purchased this sound card last year and everything was working perfectly fine. Last week I installed an SSD in my PC and reinstalled Windows. Now, for some reason unknown to me, the video card occassionally gives off a very loud continuous sound resembling a machine gun (similar to this). ...- fire2havoc

Did I Damage My Headphones
Quote: Yes, I know this. However, as I mentioned before, the card was screwed in with the same metal screw for 6 months without any static, so it's strange that it decided to act up now.- fire2havoc

Did I Damage My Headphones
Quote: It is strange, because it was screwed in for 6 months with no static noise. Everything was fine. I decided to test all of the possibilities before submitting an RMA. It was attached all the way. I stuck a piece of paper under the card bracket so it doesn't hang down. The only...- fire2havoc

Did I Damage My Headphones
I think I may have found the solution in the most unlikely place. I was trying to swap PCI express ports and then I decided to give the sound card a try without having the bracket screwed into the back of the case. Surely enough, static is gone. Essentially, the screw which screws the sound card...- fire2havoc

Did I Damage My Headphones
As a last sanity check, I just plugged in my Shure earphones and same result - static from the right earphone. Therefore, I conclude that the headphones are fine and that it is a problem with the sound card. Will most likely need to replace it under warranty.- fire2havoc

Did I Damage My Headphones
Quote: I am quite experienced with computers so yes, I thoroughly washed my hands and grounded myself and unplugged the power. It seems that the static noise is now much more noticeable, but it is only coming out of the right headphone. Is there anything I can do to fix this, or should I...- fire2havoc

Did I Damage My Headphones
Quote: So I just removed the sound card, cleaned all of the surrounding dust, and plugged it back in. Static is still there and even became more noticeable. Now there is a more prominent 'ambient' static aside from the regular clicking. I can't understand what could be at fault...- fire2havoc

Did I Damage My Headphones
Quote: I'm not using onboard sound. There was a ton of static when that was the case, which is why I purchased an Auzentech X-Fi Forte sound card. After that, there was no discernible static at all. Now I can hear this faint static and I'm trying to make it go away. I'm almost certain...- fire2havoc

Did I Damage My Headphones
Quote: Excellent idea! Please excuse me, but I'm tired after work and didn't think of that. I just plugged them into my mp3 player and there is no static to be head. However, this puzzles me because nothing has changed in the last few days which would cause my computer to emit static noise.- fire2havoc

Did I Damage My Headphones
The music wasn't excruciatingly loud...I just replayed it. Louder than usual but not anything loud enough to blow the drivers. It wasn't even playing for a long time...maybe 15 minutes at most. I should clarify...the static noise I hear sounds more like an intermittent hissing than a clicking.- fire2havoc

Did I Damage My Headphones
I have the Audio-Technica ATH-AD700s which I have been happily using for about 6 months now with an Auzentech X-Fi Forte sound card. How to Switch Between Headphones and Speakers?
The thing is: there is a dedicated rear headphone jack (to use the built-in amp). When both are plugged in, sound works from both and I can mute the speakers to use only the headphones. I wanted to do it the other way around (to mute headphones when only using speakers) because I'm worried that...- fire2havoc
