thanks - yeah i was thinking if it was relatively cheap to clean these things up (new pads) could just give them to the girlfriend to use or something...not like it would be eating into the budget for new cans.

i have a pair of HD570 that i've had for maybe 5 years now...they were neglected for some time..but now im getting back into things. i will probably buy a new pair as well (not the same model), but while i have these i might as well keep them around for a backup pair and bring them up to...

any input on the quality of the 272HDs? specifically, how you like the closed design? (im currently looking at picking up a pair if im unable to get 701s for a good price)

got it - i can pick up the cans now and just wait on the amp. that way ill listen to them on pc and adjust to how they sound unamped, and then really be ready for the surprise once i amp them be a good benchmark.

my only requirement for an amp is probably digital input ill take a look at the Little dot mk II tube amp as well.

i just contacted audio-gd and they have 1 compass in stock so maybe i'll get that and the 272's (once i rule out that i cannot get the k701s without discount). price wasn't too bad for the compass ($250 usd) do i really need to do much investigation on the amps? im sort of in a "ready to...

i currently am able to get the 242hd and 272hd for a really good price ... i currently have an old set of senn hd570s, but am patiently ready to upgrade. as i understand it, the 242s are semi-open (like my hd570s) and the 272s are fully closed. i am leaning towards the fully-closed...
