I loved the sound of the RE400s until the left speaker died on me. The same thing happened to me when I had the RE-0. I guess I've just had bad luck with Hifiman IEMs, but if they were more durable they would be my go-to IEMs for sure.

Just for the record if anyone digs this thread back up, I've been using the Golds for a while now and I regret maybe 80% of what I said about them. Either they've opened up or I've gotten used to their sound, and I've noticed that pairing them up with an O2/ODAC combo isn't the best idea as it...

Whoever told me Westone 3s sound like HE400s is wrong...I bought a pair of W3s and they're very dark and sluggish - sounds like I'm listening to music with my ears plugged from low pressure, no detail at all. Anything else that sounds like the HE400s? Considering IEMs or closed portables...

Does anyone think the velour pads make the HE400s sound more sibilant and less bodied? I think I'll be selling my velours as I prefer the sound with pleather pads.

I received mine today and so far I'm not too impressed. They don't seem like much of an improvement from my SE215s; in fact, they sound similar to them with that boomy bass and lack of detail - just an awful muffling sound. I'm probably going to put them up for sale...
