ATH-PRO700 MK2 or ATH-WS99
Well, I had a chance to audition these two at my local shop, and I personally found that the WS99 sounded like it had more bass, and also more treble than the PRO700MKII. The WS99 also felt more comfortable to wear.- peternguyen

ATH-PRO700 MK2 or ATH-WS99
So I was just wondering if anyone could provide a comparison between these two. I too am also after some good bassy headphones, and I know that the PRO700 seems to be known for its bass, but there isn't as much feedback on the WS99 that I can find on the web. Has anyone tried both? How do they...- peternguyen

Looking for a DAC/amp with adjustable treble/bass
I don't want to get too off-track, but I was under the impression that software equalization is not as good as it being done on the amp.- peternguyen

Looking for a DAC/amp with adjustable treble/bass
Hi all. Could anyone recommend me a good DAC/amp that has adjustable treble and bass, or at least adjustable bass? My FiiO E17 has stopped working on me so I am now considering upgrading. I will be using this with my Beyerdynamic DT 880 250 ohm headphones, and the source will be my computer. Thanks.- peternguyen

Looking for a DAC/amp with adjustable treble/bass
Hi all. My FiiO E17 stopped working on me so I am now considering upgrading. What I love about the E17 though was that it had an equalizer. I currently have a Beyerdynamic DT 880, and while I like the sound of these headphones, I find the bass underwhelming. Being able to use an equalizer on the...- peternguyen

Headphone impedance lower than Amp impedance range?
Hi all, I just want some clarification on this too. I have just ordered the Beyerdynamic DTX 101 iE which has an impedance of 12 ohms, and was wondering I could use it with my amp, which is the FiiO E17, which also has an impedance range of 16 - 300 ohms. Would it be okay to use it with this...- peternguyen

Confused - Can the amp be bypassed on Fiio E17?
I was searching through the forums and came across the below comment from this post that James from FiiO made regarding the firmware: Quote: James, hopefully you will see my question. Do you mean to say that the newer firmware prevents the gain from defaulting back to 6dB when...- peternguyen

Looking for a decent desktop DAC/amp setup
I have received my Fiio E09K, and after having played around with it for a few days, I must say that I perceive little improvements from the upgrade. I'm not sure if this because of the headphones that I am using, if it's just simply that the E09K isn't that much of an upgrade or maybe I just...- peternguyen

Confused - Can the amp be bypassed on Fiio E17?
I don't know if it's just me, but I find the sound is a bit nicer without any gain. I would have thought that one of the benefits of having more power from the E09K is to not require any gain. Regardless, to have to change a setting each time when turning on a device is not user friendly.- peternguyen

Confused - Can the amp be bypassed on Fiio E17?
Quote: Do you mean to say there is a way to have the E17 default to a gain 0dB when docked? Or do you mean I will just have to go into the settings menu all the time when powering on the E09K+E17 if I want to set the gain back to 0dB.- peternguyen

Confused - Can the amp be bypassed on Fiio E17?
Quote: I'm not exactly sure I understand what you mean. When powering on the E09K+E17, the gain on the E17 defaults to 6dB. This happens even when the E09K is not connected to any source, so I would assume that if there is no signal, then there would be no distortion; it purely seems...- peternguyen

Confused - Can the amp be bypassed on Fiio E17?
Quote: Thanks again for the advice. I have just received my E09K and I am having trouble with the gain setting on the E17. It appears that every time I turn off the gain on the E17, whenever I power on the E09K with the E17 docked, the E17 will have its gain setting back to 6dB; it...- peternguyen

Confused - Can the amp be bypassed on Fiio E17?
Quote: Thanks for the explanation. Considering that I will be using the Fiio E17/E09K via USB, will there be any distortion? If so, how can I minimize it? Also, would it be best to completely turn off the gain on the E17 when using it with the E09K?- peternguyen

Confused - Can the amp be bypassed on Fiio E17?
I'm still a little bit confused by the LO Bypass feature. I currently own the Fiio E17 and will be soon getting the Fiio E09K, and I know that if you want to be able to use the equalizer on the E17 still, you will need to set the device to pre-amp the signal, but this also means that the volume...- peternguyen

Looking for a decent desktop DAC/amp setup
My bad, I didn't look hard enough! I decided on ordering the Fiio E09K due to the price and being able to still take advantage of the E17 which would have otherwise been made redundant had I got another DAC/amp system. I will see what improvements this will bring to the table, and perhaps...- peternguyen

Thanks for the suggestion. The M-Stage looks like a pretty well rated amp, but it doesn't appear to have or come in a DAC/amp version which is a shame.- peternguyen

Looking for a decent desktop DAC/amp setup
Hi everyone. I am currently looking to upgrade my current DAC/amp setup which is a Fiio E17 powering the Beyerdynamic DT880, 250 ohms; the source is my desktop computer. My goal is to get the most out of my headphones within a certain budget, and I am also looking into getting the Sennheiser HD...- peternguyen

Fiio E17 building up static when idle
I thought I'd provide an update to this thread. Since my last post stating that I was able to prevent the static noises by leaving the device plugged in at all times, I have not had any further issues since. So it appears that for some reason, perhaps with the combination of hardware that I am...- peternguyen

Fiio E17 building up static when idle
Thanks for the tips. The sound issue wasn't isolated to a specific application on the computer, but I think I may have found some sort of answer to this problem. For a while I have been switching between headphones and speakers by plugging and unplugging the USB cable on the E17, simply...- peternguyen

Fiio E17 building up static when idle
Hi all. I have had the Fiio E17 since the beginning of this year, and this issue started to occur about six months in. I have searched the forums, but the other static issues people are having are not the same as what I am having. I use the E17 via USB, and have found that after I leave...- peternguyen

FiiO E17 "ALPEN" - First Impression + Final Thought
I just got the E17 today that I ordered from a local online shop called Noisy Motel. After plugging it into my PC, I made sure the audio device selected was the Fiio and I was relieved to hear sound coming out with no issues. I played around with the settings and had a good listen to some music...- peternguyen
