I use both open and closed back headphones for gaming and I prefer open back unless there is some outside noise. I agree that from my experience imaging has been better with dynamic drivers.

Doesn't the t40rpmk3 have a slightly different driver from the 20 and 50? Could that be part of the reason it is lacking bass? I would like to keep them as isolated as possible so I might try the felt idea.

I have tried it both ways, I think I prefer it wrapped around like you had on the mk2. Can confirm, these headphones sound excellent! I really want to experiment with modding but I am a little scarred.
