TT Cartridge suggestions
I also liked Tuberoller's review, but unfortunately he didn't state whether he used speakers or headphones for his review. Picking a cartride for headphones is much different than picking a cartridge for speakers.- jopi

TT Cartridge suggestions
I really like my Shure V15VXMR. You can find it on the web for less than what you were willing to spend. It's one of the best tracking cartridges at any price level, which really helps with the unforgiving nature of listening with headphones. My Shure replaced my moving coil Benz Glider...- jopi

Vinyl questions
I strongly recommend the Shure V15VXMR cartridge. You can find it on the web for around $225 and I like it better than my $700 Benz Glider moving coil cartrdige. The Shure does have less detail, which can be a blessing for headphones and the stylus can easily be replaced.- jopi

Why I need a new source
My dear friend! The digital side is calling you with promises about perfect sound forever, but do not lend it your ear. Trust your ears: CDs --> good sound. LPs --> good music. Clicks, pops and hum are all things which can be fixed with money and care. There's nothing one can do about...- jopi

Don't overtighten. I never use a spanner to tighten the arm, but just use my fingers to twist it as hard as I can.- jopi

Amps for AKG 1000 & some other questions ..
If you think you can handle some DIY, I highly recommend Bottlehead's Paramours 2A3 single ended tube kit. It's not difficult to put together and the sound is marvellous. I'm listening now for more than a year with this combination and I haven't even considered trying anything else.- jopi

PPA to drive K1000?
Hi there, I'm just thinking loud here... Would the PPA have enought power to drive the K1000? What about using one PPA for each channel? I tried to find specs on power rating of the PPA, but couldn't find any. Thanks- jopi

Tubed speaker amps for K1000.
I'm driving my K1000 with Bottlehead's Paramour SET 2A3 tube monoblocks. They are only 3.5 Watts each, but they also do a very nice job powering my high efficient Straight 8 speakers. It also depends on the type of music you typically listen to. My setup is great for Jazz and Classical, but...- jopi

Can this tube amp power up K1000s?
Quote: Originally posted by lan I've been wondering about 16 ohms. Was this an easy mod or do you have to have certain transformer taps? My amps are the Bottlehead Paramour mono blocks and the stock and also the upgradable output irons both have 16 ohm taps. You'd have to open...- jopi

Can this tube amp power up K1000s?
I'm using 3.5 Watt (nominal into 8 ohms) SET amps with my K1000 and love it. Although, I've wired the output iron for 16 ohms, which gives more and tighter bass.- jopi

Tonearm calibration?
Two comments: 1. Make sure, you've read the manual correctly and haven't mixed up the tracking forces for brush-up and brush-down. If in doubt, dial in the tracking force without using the brush and leave the brush in the up position. 2. Your VTA (vertical tracking angle) may be off and by...- jopi

AKG K1000 / Amp pairings
I haven't heard a whole lot of amps with the K1000, but I really love my Bottlehead Paramours with them. I've played with the output taps of the output transformer to tweak them right for the headphones (actually I've doubled up on the output transformer for increased inductance) and for more...- jopi

Is listening to speakers or to headphones more "correct"?

What about a vinyl headphone setup?
Hi there, I'm using vinyl only (no CD player) with headphones only (no speakers) and I've learned quite a bit over the years. 1. If you can't get used to some pops and ticks in the background with used records, forget it. I can get new records or my own teenage well cared of records to...- jopi

Where in the world is Jon Beilin?
Anybody got a clue? I've paypaled him money for some tubes some two months ago and still haven't received any goods. I've tried to contact him through his paypal email and through head-fi pm with no response. Thanks- jopi

Talk me out of a bicycle, for a Stax.
Buy the damn headphones! Of course, it's a good idea to go outside and get exercise, but you don't have to spend a ton of money to do that. One expensive hobby is enough, pick audio, it's more satisfying in the long run. Get the Stax and buy yourself a $100 bike from Walmart.- jopi

The bike will be trashed and worthless in ten years. Your headphones will still work and would still have a considerable resale value in ten years.- jopi

The Headphone Extension Cable Thread...
I thought I'd chip in here. Have a look at this: http://www.markertek.com/MTStore/product.CFM?BaseItem=2534 It's a stereo microphone bulk cable made by Mogami with four wires. I've used that for an 25 feet extension replacement cord for my AKG K1000. I've soldered a 4 pin XLR Neutrik...- jopi

Am I joining the ranks of the Vinyl Re-Addicted?
This is perferctly normal. I'm at a stage now where I just sold my SACD/CD player and am considering taking out the selector switch on my Foreplay to shorten the signal path and have one less switch for the music to go through. -
Perfect listening room for AKG K1000
Somebody posted this at the audioasylum today: True confession time from the closet life. I am one of the most sickly twisted earspeaker fanatics that I know (actually, I'm the only one that I know). Will the US dollar continue to fall (and the AU rise)?
Don't base your purchase decision on what currencies do. It's unpredictable. Nobody knows which way the US dollar will go. If there'd be a reliable way, everybody would jump on it and buy one currency and sell the other which in turn would make the first currency more expensive the second one...- jopi
