H 555 - sound leak
Well I'd rather not risk it to be honest. I have my B&W floorstanders for when 'leakage' isn't a problem. :) Had a look at the 380. Look very nice but slightly more than I want to pay. I think I'm going to go for the Sennheiser 448. Headroom has them in their 'Top 10' list (if that...- mellows

H 555 - sound leak
Most of my listening with whatever headphones I get will be with my Pioneer loudspeaker amp (i.e. the headphone out of my full-size amp), as I have my Ultimate Ears IEMs for when I'm on the move. Just checked the website and the AKG impedance is 32 ohms. That shouldn't be a problem surely? ...- mellows

H 555 - sound leak
Just had a look at those Shure headphones. Those Audio-Technica cans are a bit expensive. So now I've just stumbled upon the AKG K77s. They're much cheaper but look very good and I understand AKG is a very reputable headphone brand. So it's really down the Shure SRH440, Sennheiser HD...- mellows

H 555 - sound leak
HD 238 are also open... I'm going to be in London some time in this coming month. Would there be somewhere there where I could give the HD 555 a test run? My room-mate spends a LOT of time studying and these won't be viable if they're going to disturb him too much. Would you mind doing a...- mellows

H 555 - sound leak
I want to get the Sennheiser HD 555 headphones but I'm worried about sound leak. Most of my listening will be in my dorm room, where my room-mate will be working about 2.5 metres away from me. How much sound would carry across to him, if I mostly listen at pretty moderate levels. If...- mellows

Spotting fake Sennheiser IE7s
Yes, the jack connector and splitter are completely opaque... But the little piece extending from the actual earphones is slightly transparent... So what does that mean if they're fake? They still sound good to me. Do they come from the same factory or what? Are they made up of similar parts?- mellows

Well I got my money back so I'm happy. Still interested to hear whether you think these are real or not so I've attached some pictures. Let me know if I should take pictures of specific things. Click the thumbnails to see the pics; they're quite big.- mellows

Tannoy Mecury MR2
Cool thanks. Mainly just want good mids but the low-end is also quite important. Well I think I'm going to get them then (for a friend actually) as I'm getting the combo for a good price. -
Tannoy Mecury MR2
How's this speaker? I can't find much on it... Will it go well with a Denon PMA 525R 50W amp? Thanks.- mellows

Spotting fake Sennheiser IE7s
Hey guys thanks for the comments. He emailed me back assuring me that they are authentic and new etc so I think I might have to take it up with Amazon... So you're sure if there's no cleaning tool etc, it's a fake? Have you heard the same from others? I'll take some photos but I don't...- mellows

Spotting fake Sennheiser IE7s
I bought 'new' Sennheiser IE7s from the Amazon.co.uk marketplace and it arrived in proper Sennheiser packaging. However, the cleaning tool, case and foam tips were missing and there was clear evidence of its having been opened before. Also, the piece of clear plastic that you have to cut to get...- mellows

Thanks, I'll keep that offer in mind. So would you go for it? Look at the cheapest offer on the link I gave. Would you feel safe buying that, knowing it is supported by Amazon? Unfortunately, I live in South Africa and a relative is going to bring the earphones over from the UK. I don't want...- mellows

Please have a look at these Amazon listings: link The regular price is £130 but they have listings there for less than half of that. The cheapest one doesn't have any ratings or anything but I don't know whether I should be worried - does Amazon have any sort of quality check with their...- mellows

Has this been done before?
If the recordings are done immediately after one another and with minimal disturbance, it should ensure the only major 'difference' is the changed cable.- mellows

Whence the noise?
Ok, that's what I'll do. -
New head-/earphones
Should this perhaps be in the headphone/IEM forum? A headphone obviously won't provide the noise isolation me earphones but presumably you get better sound for what you pay. What about comfort and ear fatigue? I find my current earphones very comfortable - will big padded headphones be able... -
Whence the noise?
Would a line out cable from the iPod be better? i.e. bypass the amp. -
Whence the noise?
It's a soft, fuzzy white noise sound. Not irritating really, but it sometimes breaks what should be silence...
