I bought 'new' Sennheiser IE7s from the Amazon.co.uk marketplace and it arrived in proper Sennheiser packaging. However, the cleaning tool, case and foam tips were missing and there was clear evidence of its having been opened before. Also, the piece of clear plastic that you have to cut to get in - it appears to have been glued back together.

I've contacted the seller but haven't heard from him yet. I paid about 40% of the normal price, so I was half expecting something like this.

So my question is, is there a chance that they're fake? And how would I check? They sound very good to me but I have no experience with IEMs...

I dont think amazon sells fake product because they can get sued if they do. Did you buy them straight from amazon or through other sellers?

It was through another seller, Amplitude.Audio, and listed under the 'new' category.

No way...I think I bought those headphones. I bought them last week cut through the left one if I remember correctly and glued it back together. I posted them back 2 or 3 days ago. The seller was also Amplitude.Audio.

it's fake. I've seen $75 IE7 fakes on ebay. And if you bought from amazon marketplace for that price, it is most likely a fake, especially since it has accessories missing.

well.. either that or they weren't actually new but the seller listed them as such. how much did you pay for them? and isn't there any sort of buyer protection from amazon? i'm sure amazon marketplace must have some sort of protection policies in place.

i got them for $185 from Audiotopia LLC, and I contacted sennheiser to make sure that they were an authorized seller. And they indeed were.

Wow, the authorized dealer stuck you with fakes, but I bought from Amazon.com for $169 from Z Electronics (which is not an authorized dealer) but earphones weren't fakes. Just no warranty I guess. But i had them checked out by a friends who knows Sennheiser and verified they were real with everything I was suppose to receive. Go figure. I have bought from un-authorized sellers before (bought shure e530s) and been lucky enough for the product to operate way past the warranty date. It's a chance you take if you want some high-ends at an affordable price.

Deal with Amazon.com in helping you get your money back.

I think you are confusing two different threads. The OP never said he bought from an authorized dealer, although chrisssssssss2 did, but he didn't say anything about his being fake.

Hey guys thanks for the comments. He emailed me back assuring me that they are authentic and new etc so I think I might have to take it up with Amazon...

So you're sure if there's no cleaning tool etc, it's a fake? Have you heard the same from others?

I'll take some photos but I don't have proper internet access for a few days so I won't be able to upload them immediately...

well regardless of whether or not they are real... they are clearly not new.. there should be no argument for you to return them. if there is any resistance from the seller to take them back - you definitely should take it up with Amazon, as I am sure Amazon must have some safegaurds in place to deal with this as his description of the IE7s as being new is completely false.
