  The DAC may lose its old school sound character without the tube buffer especially with PCM1704 DAC on board. I think it loses that magical, sweet sound the people love it for...   PCM1704 it detailed and cold and sounding rather like the modern DACs.

Thanx Rob for thermal explaination, all I have to do now is to compare Dave with your old SX-512 which I consider it to be the best DAC ever released.

  I'm very curious how the Dave sounds. I have to test it.  I'm a little worried about the high temperature inside the DAC. Heat problem is known from DPA Dacs, which Rob designed many years ago. What about the Dave Rob, why does it become so hot? Can we run it with continuos play for 24h a day?

  In the case of capacitors higher voltage is always better.

  GE made this tube for special order in the 90's. It really sounds good, comparable to Bendix 6385, but Bendix is better made and longer life tube.

0,47uF for outputs will do the great job... :) No higher values are needed in the case of Havana

  Joel, Havana, Stockholm are in fact cheap DACs, what would I say in this matter? To get the best caps in the price range of the DAC itsefl? I would not recommned such solution. I recommend  Jensen copper foil PIO caps (check the dimensions first) which are decent priced and very analogue...

  They will not burn-in when DAC is on only, the caps have to work.

  Audio Note tantalums are almost as good as Shinkoh. Get them if Shinkoh is out of stock.
