    FiiO E17 & Sansa Clip+ screen

Useless information of the day, pretty sure they share the same screen. Apologies for the terrible mobile phone pic.     Either nobody else has noticed, or the search engine here is useless. I'm guessing the latter.

    Alpen is the key....

Alpen is the key.... not only for regular bowel movements, but it also unlocks a super-electric-dream-highway connection between source and ears.   I bought it to use as a DAC for the optical output on my laptop when I travel. I haven't tried it on that yet. I thought I would try it between...

    Sansa Clip+ vs Cowon D2+

Has anyone owned them both?   I'd like to hear your thoughts. I'm contemplating getting rid of the D2+ for a smaller player that still handles FLAC, just wondering if it would be worth doing. I'm only interested in using the unit for music playback, nothing else. I don't currently use a...

Replicating a desktop sound on the move.... achievable?

I'm off to Afghanistan in a few months - dragging a laptop, dac, psu, valve amp and full size cans around would be impossible.   I love the sound I'm getting with Foobar: big fan of the wasapi output and the dolby headphone wrapper.   I have a Cowon D2+, and have yet to decide on...

    Portable dac/amp with spdif input?

I could do with a battery or usb rechargeable dac/amp with a spdif input, to use with my laptop. Any suggestions, are there any?   I have tried a couple of usb dacs but I just couldn't get my laptop to work with them properly. The spdif works great though.

    Single 12au7 amps

Are there any other headphone amps, hybrid or otherwise (aside from the EF1), that utilise a single 12au7 tube? Would be interested in those that use them in pairs too. Cheers.

Have Denon changed the inside of the D2000 cup?

Just wondering... taken my new pair apart to do the markl mod, but the cup isn't bare inside. It has a thick deadening layer and a ring of fibrefill. Is this how they've always been?

    A tear to my eye...

I've finally found a combo that gives me what I've been looking for out of my HD600 cans, headphones I've owned for some time now. The Head Direct EF1 has been with me for a while now, and it had an edge on the Millet, but it's only today that the gap between the two has been revealed to me...

Crackling and hiss with USB DAC

I bought a new USB DAC this week. It performs fine on the desktop, but doesn't work on the laptop. The laptop has 4 usb ports and I've tried all 4. Although the machine recognises the DAC (as Burr-Brown Japan PCM2702), on playback of any sound (regardless if it's music via Foobar or just...

How fast is the Sansa Clip?

I have a Cowon D2+ but bought an iRiver T7 just for using in the gym. It replaced my Samsung YP-T6 which went ****-up a couple of weeks ago. I liked the Samsung as it was small, and very quick to navigate through tracks etc. The iRiver isn't as small, and is slow as hell in comparison, which...

iBasso D3 - what should happen?

What should happen when I connect the usb from the pc to it - should windows automatically find it? The D3 makes 3 clicking sounds on connection (the link light flashing appears to make the noise), and with either XP or Windows 7, it just reports an unknown device. The "owners manual" is...

    IE8 vs UM2 - or other £200 IEM?

I think it's time I upgraded my Senn CX300's. Source will currently be an mp3 player, and will probably bag a portable amp in the near future. Primarily for use at work. I listen to a variety of music, but it's mostly electronic - ambient, club, tech, drum & bass etc. I do listen to the...

    Starving Student has arrived

I hit things with hammers for a living. Far too lungeous to be able to use a soldering iron, so ordered one instead from Whiplash Audio who, I have to say, have been great. Excellent communication throughout the sale from Craig. No import tax sting either, nice one. It came with CBS Hytron...

Which voltage converter for Starving Student?

I have a Mini Millet Starving Student on order from the US which is 110v. I'm in the UK. Looking at converters, there appear to be a few, varying in cost. Three I've looked at already vary in power from 45W through to 300W. Any ideas how much I need?

    Mini Millet or EF-1?

Hello, new to the forum. I'm looking to buy my first headphone amp. After quite a lot of reading and trawling (especially on this forum) I've narrowed my choice down to the Starving Student Mini Millet and the Head Direct EF-1. I use Sennheiser HD600 headphones. The amp will be used with...
