Sturdy, comfortable, low isolation buds or IEMs for walking around?

I'm looking for earbuds or IEMs to use with my phone to listen to music while I'm walking around outside.   Low isolation so I don't bump into people or fail to hear a car.  Sturdy so they won't get destroyed in my pocket when I'm not listening.  Comfortable for obvious reasons.  They...

    Cheap isolation for flying?

What would you recommend for relatively cheap earphones for the occasional airplane trip?  Isolation and comfort are the most important factors, so long as sound is within reason.  I don't fly that much, so would prefer not paying more than about $50.

    High isolation around $75?

I'm looking for IEMs for airplane travel and the like.  I'd like a very high degree of isolation and reasonable sound quality.  I'd like something very comfortable, because I'd use them for many hours at a time, although I realize comfort is largely a function of the tips.  Something that works...

    IEM isolation, SQ, > 16 ohms, < $100

I'm looking for an IEM with good isolation (for airplane use), good SQ, greater than 16 ohm impedance (one of my sources gets hissy with every 16 ohm phone I've tried) and under $100. This would replace my im716, which worked fine until the sound became intermittent. I had ordered another...

    Cheap earbuds with mic

I'm looking for cheap, but not terrible, earbuds to use with a mobile phone (Nokia e63). Main use would be to play music. I'd use this walking outside, so I'd like to be able to hear traffic to some extent. The Ultimate Ears MetroFi 200v would seem perfect, especially at $25, but I worry...

    Which tips?

I have been using Ety large biflanges (or sometimes large yellow foamies) with my Altec Lansing im716s and would like something more comfortable and perhaps better isolating. Comply tips seem popular, but I'm concerned they will be too small (because they only come in regular and slim). Shure...

    IEM isolation

I've read many posts about the blissful silence many say they enjoy wearing IEM's. While I get a lot of attenuation of outside sound with IEM's (I've had the Shure e2c and the Altec Lansing im716), I've always been able to hear outside sound to some degree, especially when the music volume is...

    Another airplane e2c v. er-6i v ?

I have the Shure e2c for airplane use. The cord is breaking down, so I need to replace them. Source is a nano or a laptop. They sound fine to me. They cut out a lot of noise, but by no means all noise. They are comfortable, but get less so after a while. I use the large foamies, btw. I'm...

    Nano battery life?

My ipod Nano battery lasts about 10 hours. I tested by fully charging it, then letting it run down overnight. Is this normal or should I replace it? The only thread I could find was this: http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=138169, but it isn't clear if the people getting shorter...

    Ipod battery settlement?

Anyone know what's happening with the Apple ipod battery class action? Last I heard a judge approved the settlement in early September, but I haven't heard any reports of Apple distributing the $50 store credits that were to be sent. The Apple iPod Settlement Administration website...

    Nano & sweat?

Does moisture hurt the Nano? Many complained that when they exercised with the Shuffle and it got sweaty, it would stop working. Is the Nano any more waterproof?

    Flash mp3 player

Any recommendations for a flash mp3 player that has a built-in USB connector (doesn't need a cable), doesn't need proprietary software and isn't flimsy? I'd get a Muvo, but reveiws on the net say that it's not very reliable. Many people say it stops working after a few weeks. See, for example...

    flying with Shure E2's

The E2's do a nice job of blocking most ambient noise, other than jet rumble, on an airplane when listening to music at moderate volume. They made some recent flights much more pleasant. Take them out after a period of extended use and you realize how much noise they block. They work well...

    Recommended flash mp3 player?

What's a good simple flash mp3 player? Something in the 128mb range for use jogging and the like. Not really looking for something with many features or particularly high end. Just a good basic player. I have an ipod, btw, but it's not ideal for use when running. And an MD player is not an...

    Degree of isolation

How much isolation should a canalphone provide? Listening to acoustic music at moderate volume with my Shure E2's, I can just about tell that the phone is ringing (sometimes) and that a vacuum cleaner is going. Both sounds are *very* muffled, but I can tell something is making noise. With the...

    Shure or Ety in NY?

Is there a place that sells Shure E2's and Ety 6's in NY City? I'd like to try before buying and a local dealer would make that easier

    airplane phones again

Seems the main choices for listening on an airplane are 1) Ety 4 - rather expensive 2) Ety 6 - opinions divided. A number of people find them uncomfortable. 3) Shure e2 - some prefer to Ety 6, some don't. A number of people find them uncomfortable. 4) Senn PX-250 - mixed reviews...

    Anyone try this $67 128mb mp3 player?

"An USB storage device with 128MB of built-in flash memory comes in handy for plenty of applications! Yet, the Muzic AERA offers much more than a portable solution to transferring data! The AERA also is an MP3 player, a voice recorder and a laser pointer! "...

    Opeth without the growls?

After a fair amount of browsing this forum to find something new, I just got a copy of Opeth's Blackwater Park. I like it a lot on first listen, although I'm not too fond of the growling. Anything similar I might like which has either more normal singing voice or just instrumental?

    mx400 v. mx500

Any reason to prefer one to the other, assuming you don't need a volume control and don't care about a few dollars? Prior posts on the subject seem inconclusive, which may be the answer :-)

    ER4P v. MX500

By Xin Feng Ph.D. [maker of the super mini amp] [02/22/03] The latest update: Nobody has mentioned, but I've found ER4P, ER4S and ER6 are not a good choice for noisy environment even they have 27dB isolation. The problem is, ERs' bass is already very weak and that spotty bass is easily buried...

    airplane sounds

I just returned from long plane ride on which I listened to a friend's headphones which usually sound very boomy and to my eggos. On the flight, the eggos sounded harsh and lacking in bass and the boomy headphones sounded kinda normal. Does the rumble of the engine make it harder to hear...

    Eggos arrive

My Eggos just arrived (11 days from order from Audiocubes). The first track of Kind of Blue sounds much more like music through the Eggos than through stock ipod earbuds. So far, I'm happy.
