I had a similar moment, where I gave the nod to the Dan Clark Audio Ether for a bit more enjoyment, even if soundstage depth was a bit more shallow. Eventually, though, I decided that I would rather pay HD 800 prices, and I’ve been happy with my decision – especially since I have two amps I feel...

...or the Hifiman Arya. I got the Arya and it sounds great but the build quality leaves a lot to be desired. Some very vocal people say the HD800s "ruined" what is great about the HD800. My used pair of HD800 had the SDR mod, I removed it. I must say I understand why people said the HD800...

For gaming, I would assume plugging the HD800, directly into the G6's headphone jack, would work fine. You also could connect the G6's line-output (1/8") to the line-input (RCA) on the Magnius. Have you tried connecting the PS5's USB port to the Modius USB port, just to see if the PS5 can work...

Just to throw out a contrasting opinion, I personally did not like Redscape and I prefer Creative's surround virtualization. My experience was that Redscape audio came out sounding overly-processed and artificial, even compressed-sounding. Creative, by contrast, sounds clean to me.

I… honestly don’t know about Dolby pro logic for NES games, I was a baby in the 80’s 😅 Among the Astro Mixamps, the 2011 Mixamp was the one Mad Lust Envy said sounded the least hissy to him… I’m inclined to believe him, though it’s also possible that the design didn’t change and the Mixamp Pro...

Can you still download Redscape? If so, that and a decent amp. Soundblaster G6 is a good 2nd choice. Soundblaster GC7 has SXFi which is superior to SBX to my ears, however I haven't been following along with whether they have fixed its various firmware issues that were hampering it as of late.

I went with getting away from Creative solutions, and having the PC do my 3D HRTF for my headphones, and then focused on having a solid headphone setup. Allows me to also enjoy my music and movies/shows. Redscape and Waves is no longer selling software only, with Waves partnering with...

...for some 3d audio gaming goodness. I see the creative labs x7 is discontinued, whats the next best thing? or better around the same price point, could maybe go a bit higher. Also what about headphones? I think the hd800 s is out of my price range, would probably want to spend at max 1k on cans

A few options (other than the two you listed) that are sub or around $3k depending on how high you want to go: Fostex TH-900 or TH-909 (awesome for gaming, especially if you want to feel the impact of explosions) Denon AHD-9200 ZMF Verite Closed (a bit less bass than the TH-900, but bigger...

...games like RPGs and action games like Final Fantasy, Nier, Monster Hunter, Skyrim, etc. I'm thinking sub $3kish including the used market. HD800/S (but lacks "cinematic bass") and Arya Stealth are two of the most recommended cans I've gotten responses on. I've seen some good used deals on HEKV2s.

At least with analog 3.5mm plugged straight into my rear green motherboard jack, Dolby Access and DTS Sound Unbound works just fine with surround movies/series, and also works fine with VLC, Potplayer, MPC-BE. With PotPlayer in the audio settings you should use the channel layout as "Same as...

...a disservice to whatever headphones you connect to it, within reason. I probably wouldn't suggest you try a 600ohm Beyerdynamic, or Sennheiser HD800 with it, but everything I tried still sounded like a good version of themselves, without any real obvious flaws/shortcomings. If anything, it...

Thanks, I'd think with the access to a wide array of products you must have and hearing that the Hel works well with your HD800 says a lot. I assume (hate to assume), there may be a better pairing you've come across?

...soundstaging than I remember from the pre-finalized 8XX. I also heard the HD820 closed back, and thought they did a great job translating the HD800 type of sound, if a little different. Not sure why it gets a lot of detractors. My guess is too much FR graph advocates, who listen with eyes...

I'm sure some IEM's with bass on the lighter side would do great with gaming. I once tried my CA Vega's for gaming and couldn't hear a thing over all the explosions and gun shots, haha (too much BASSSSSS)

Well the X4 finally showed up today after some Amazon delays. To get to know the thing a bit I busted out my old, old Siberia V1's, the only wired headset I own. My M1570 has all of that in spades, including vertical cues. Soundstage is a full circle with depth, and is wide, and the imaging within is perfect. Using Oratory1990's Harman Curve EQ, modified for my age and taste.

...is there any verticality in sound cues? If an enemy is on the floor above you, do you hear them as above? Only a few planar headphones and the HD800 can do that. I am really interested in your findings as I plan to pick one of the headphones that you purchased too, for the same application...

Still rocking the KSC75 with the Realiser A16 since this previous post back in July lol. I feel ashamed that I have headphones like the HD800 & Utopia just collecting dust but the comfort is just so damn good compared to your traditional headphones. And the autoEQ that the Realiser A16 does...

Thats a huge spending range. If you don't mind spending the money, get an HD800S and call it a day. You will always be wondering what you're missing out on if you don't. If you don't feel the need to spend the money you can get great sounding headphones for a lot less that are great in games...

If it's competitive - HD800s from what others have told me. If you want immersion and to feel explosions etc, go with the Fostex TH900 or 909.
