HD 800S vs HD 600 for mixing and mastering

I think the point raised my many audio professionals is that the HD 800S soundstage is unnatural, giving it that echo and metallic ring... HD 600 is a better tool for mixing, according to them, and presents the music in a reasonably wide sound stage and mixing decisions translate better. I...

    Beyerdynamic DT 150: Bloody Brilliant!

How strange! Significantly deeper? You must know that the stock pads are already ridiculously deep, right? Maybe they were old and worn out... I've trying them on a friend's set up. Mine still have the stock pads and they are perfectly deep, but I would love that velour feel.

    Beyerdynamic DT 150: Bloody Brilliant!

Acoustic Research AR-H1 need to come with a warning! They aren't deep enough. Not nearly as deep as the original DT 150 pads. So your ears could touch the drivers and actually decrease the comfort.

JLab Audio Rewind Wireless Retro Headphones...

Thanks for listing the options. The problem with on-ears is that they go from super comfortable to super uncomfortable when weight is increased. I actually hate on ears except for those that are so light you hardly feel them. No open back, over-ear regardless of how comfortable they are, can...

JLab Audio Rewind Wireless Retro Headphones...

Nice reviews. I wish I could use in-ears... My ears can only tolerate earbuds and I have a few of those. If this company can produce high quality drivers (not those in the Rewind), then all they'd have to do is sell them in the same body and charge a bit more. There's no way that's not going to...

JLab Audio Rewind Wireless Retro Headphones...

Oh, thank you for that. They should know that they've made an incredible product and if they had high quality drivers in them (like the Sennheiser PX 1000 ii), I bet it could become wildly popular and we wouldn't mind paying 2 or 3 times more for it. As for build quality, I think it leaves...

JLab Audio Rewind Wireless Retro Headphones...

Just similar lightweight comfortable old-school on-ear with decent quality sound, like the Sennheiser PX 100 ii or something... Whatever the price... Doesn't exist, doesn't.

JLab Audio Rewind Wireless Retro Headphones...

I have one of these and I love the comfort... I wonder if there is an audiophile version of these. Something with the same comfort and form factor but with better audio quality. This is great to listen to podcasts and watch videos, but it fails with music. Any music.

    New Beyerdynamic T1 (2nd Generation)

Are the pads on the T1 the same as DT 990/880 pads? I was hoping something with a bit large opening since the 990 pads touch the top and bottom of my ear. I know they are deep with the angled driver and that feels good but I forgot how the pad openings felt.

WE WANT MUD! Dark headphones appreciation thread

Word has it these are very fragile headphones and break easily. At $100 mark, all headphones should be pretty much unbreakable. People report using these for a few months and having them break in two for no reason.

I wouldn't mind a little more weight on it, as long as I don't have to walk with that stupid thing hanging below my chin. This is lazy production design. They didn't put much thought into it. Will be discontinued soon.

Great. These are nice little headphones, obviously. If any of these become wireless, that would be great. I mean truly wireless not the laughable kind the "wireless" porta pro is now.

I haven't heard the Porta pro, but I have the Sennheiser PX 100 ii which is delightfully warm. It's discontinued now but if anyone has heard it, how does it compare?

WE WANT MUD! Dark headphones appreciation thread

Nice to hear that about the T1.2. Back when the HD 800 and the T1 were first being compared, people always noted that the T1 was even brighter than the HD 800, which itself was unbearably bright. It's good to hear they have been able to address that in the second gen. The mids are probably...

Are you sure about that? Looking at the T1 frequency graph (whichever generation) makes me sick to my stomach! How is it warmer than the 650: the one reliable cure for sibilance?

PSA: Replace your old HD600/650 pads

Which ones did you get? I always wondered how well those cheap Chinese ones worked.

Oh yeah! Imagine if the T1 had the smooth frequency response of the DT 150! What a beautiful world would that be!

WE WANT MUD! Dark headphones appreciation thread

I bought Beyer DT 150 a few days ago and I'm surprised these aren't widely discussed among warm/dark signature fans. They give you the perfect "grandpa's headphones" sound and the comfort is better than the pictures have you believe. I can't believe a company that made this would later make the...

    New Beyerdynamic T1 (2nd Generation)

I recently spent some time with the T1 2nd gen and found it to be an overall warm-sounding headphone which is ideal for me. I too am baffled with the fact that the difference between this and the original T1 is not reflected in the graphs. All of these graphs show a minor reduction in tremble...

WE WANT MUD! Dark headphones appreciation thread

It would be ideal if we could get a nice list of dark headphones, listed from darker to darkest. For example, I'm still not sure which headphones are the absolutely darkest. I once got the PX 100 ii that was believed to hold this title and it still wasn't dark enough for me. Harsh violins in...

WE WANT MUD! Dark headphones appreciation thread

I created this thread to compile a useful list of dark headphones from the community. Nothing wrong with other sound signatures. But here I'd love to get discussions on headphones that are known for being dark. No headphone is dark enough for me. That's the sound I like the most and I'm pretty...

WE WANT MUD! Dark headphones appreciation thread

I auditioned this at a Hi-Fi store a few weeks ago. They didn't strike me as particularly dark headphones but I liked them a lot. The best wireless headphones I've ever heard by a long shot. It's worth noting that they are said to be using the same drivers found in Sony MDR-1AM2 mentioned here...

Are the cups large enough on these? Are they fully over ear? I always feel claustrophobic wearing such headphones. That's why I could never get used to the Momentums even though they sound dark and agreeable to me.

    Beyerdynamic DT 150: Bloody Brilliant!

Oh, so the DT250s are even smoother then, hmm? I couldn't decide between the 250 and 150 and went with the 150 just because I noticed the 250 pads were too small for most ears. I'm a sucker for smooth and dark headphones. Should have gone with the 250.

Hell with "sparkle" and "sizzle!" Screw the Beyer mountain peak! Screw all the shouty upper mids and all the shrill highs! And shove that "air" up where the moon don't shine! We appreciate warm, dark, smooth sound signatures that we can relax to and enjoy our music without our ears bleeding...
