Recommendations for high-end DAC with no volume control
Give audio gd a pass. It's hyped up on Head-Fi, parts are quality, but they're just not that great sounding.- elmoe

Recommendations for high-end DAC with no volume control
The DM has volume but you can turn it all the way up until it clicks to a "set" position that bypasses the pot entirely. This thread is old now but I still have the DM DAC as my main and loving it. I would still highly recommend it if you are looking for highly detailed, pro type sound...- elmoe

Recommendations for high-end DAC with no volume control
You assume wrong. Please don't give recommendations based on assumptions. I ended up with a Dangerous Music Convert-2 which is absolutely great.- elmoe

ANY difference between balanced and single ended (other than volume & noise?)
Could you explain this in a little more detail? I'd like to understand the logic behind SE potentially having higher fidelity than balanced.- elmoe

Grado Fan Club!
Grado pads are, by and large, a matter of personal preference. Test some out, and use whatever you like best in terms of comfort/sound presentation. Personally I put flats on everything. That's just what sounds best to me.- elmoe

RME ADI-2 DAC Thread
No, I don't get the point. You saw it was cheap, and decided to use it anyway, knowing it could very well break. It's a different situation altogether. Considering how you worded your experience with Grace support, I wouldn't say you didn't come in "guns blazing", although it certainly seems...- elmoe

RME ADI-2 DAC Thread
Perhaps you misinterpreted the intent here? I am not on "the warpath" as you put it, just disappointed (for good reason) about a device from a company that claims their USB implementation is outstanding, while it has design issues. What this comes down to is whether or not you believe the USB...- elmoe

RME ADI-2 DAC Thread
No worries Mike, I appreciated your input before buying and still do today. Moving on is exactly what I plan to do, I've been reading up about RME issues all day, this seems to be a known issue with a few more people than previously reported and the USB implementation is not sound in this unit...- elmoe

RME ADI-2 DAC Thread
No, nothing like that. It was plugged directly into one of the desktop PC's USB port on the motherboard. Stock cable, stock PSU. Tried plugging in a few other devices after the DAC, all seem to be working without any issue.- elmoe

RME ADI-2 DAC Thread
I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything, but when I talk about my unit failing, the first thing I hear back is how reliable and dependable RME is. Clearly, that is not the case for me and a few others. I won't be surprised if I come back to this thread in 5 years and hear about USB...- elmoe

RME ADI-2 DAC Thread
Yep, that's the plan. I should've known better than to give my opinion and share my experience here. As usual the FOTM 50 post HFiers will defend their choice of spending money to the death. Hopefully someone on the fence reading this will spend their money more wisely. Should've bought...- elmoe
