Should I retire my HRT Music Streamer
OK - the answer to my question was YES. I got a Topping D10 Balanced, a relatively modest device, and it's a night-and-day improvement over my 14-year-old single-ended HRT Streamer II Plus that cost a good deal more back in the day. Timbre, separation, imaging, low level detail (reverb &...- zowie

Comment by 'zowie' in item 'Parks Audio Waxwing'
I figured in one of the loops it'd be totally out of the system when I don't want it, and could be used on other sources too if there was some utility. It'd be cool if they could build in eq curves that would approximate Dolby B and C de-emphasis.- zowie

Comment by 'zowie' in item 'Parks Audio Waxwing'
I'm thinking of buying this to run line level in my effects or tape loop. Then I can have all of its features when I need them (e.g., for damaged or non-RIAA records) and listen to my LPs all analogue the rest of the time. It'd replace my analogue and external eqs and noise reduction devices...- zowie

Should I retire my HRT Music Streamer
I have the II+ It was a very satisfying purchase -- 13 years ago. It's used with powered speakers. My files max out at 24/96, 2 ch. Am I going to get a meaningful upgrade from replacing it with a more contemporary DAC of similar price ($200-$500)? Thx- zowie

SL-1200 -- flimsy controls?
I just set up a new 1200GR. (Fantastic price on B&H now FYI - $350 off plus 10% store cash back). The cuing feels crude, but that's been discussed a lot on line. I'm posting b/c the start/stop button fees flimsy to me. It has some play, it lacks positive action that you get on the Hanpin...- zowie

Audio Technica LP-1240 - Anyone been under the hood? (+ mini review)
This is one of the so-called "Super-OEM" turntables. It is priced lower than most. I got one as a second deck to play 45s & 78s because I've grown tired of futzing around with unreliable 40+ year old Duals and changers for this. I'm happy with the purchase because for this use it works...- zowie

Oppo BDP 103 vs 105
People talk about the "superior" DAC in the 105 but in fact the whole audio section is imlpemented differently from what I've read. Has any one heard the difference between the 103 and 105 for 2-channel? Because the price disparity between them has grown large.- zowie

Ken Rockwell's review of the Woo WA6SE and other audio gear
Smart guy, sure. Entertaining writer about photo gear. But audio? Good grief! Here is something he posted March 20, 2012: My suggested data rates and formats still stand: 128 kbps VBR AAC for all popular music, and 160 kbps VBR AAC for any real music (true stereo recordings of...- zowie
