What Are You Listening To Right Now?
Testing my new HD 25-1 II's on various music. It's Depeche Mode's turn now. Personal Jesus http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNd4eocq2K0 And some (more?) synthpop: Hurts - Wonderful Life http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TB1x67Do5U -
++ FULL-SIZE HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATIONS THREAD++ CLOSED: Please post a thread in the Introductions, Help and Advice forum
I'm looking for something under 100 Pounds. Genres: Trance, House, Rock, Metal, Classical, Synthpop, watching movies. The phones are for home use, need to be very comfy for prolonged listening sessions, reasonably sturdy, should not require an amp, though I am willing to buy one if there is no...- horizon21

Chaottic, I've not heard the M50s but I have heard how AD700 represents music. Wide soundstage and no bass. Hope this helps.- horizon21

++ FULL-SIZE HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATIONS THREAD++ CLOSED: Please post a thread in the Introductions, Help and Advice forum
The old itch that I never scratched properly (for my student wallet's joy) has come back. I am in need of some advice from a helpful soul. First, my budget: up to 150 GBP (hinting I currently reside in the UK). The lower, the better though. I prefer not to fiddle with amps if possible. My desk...- horizon21

A newbie in need: headphones for various genres at around £90
Omg, Kerry and astroid, thanks! I believe the ZX700 is more suitable for my wide range of genres as I can EQ the bass up when I need it. Now I can hear the reverberation in the studio where AC/DC recorded Jailbreak! They are awesome for rock and I see few issues with other genres. Crisp fiddles...- horizon21

What makes headphones cost as much as they do?
I can think of three reasons, personally. Brand, cost of research and the commonly gold-plated plugs that come with most mid-range sets.- horizon21

Sorry, Kerry. I somehow missed that. I wish I hadn't :) Anyway, I already ordered the ZX700 from amazon for 62 GBP. Hopefully, I'll be enjoying some good sound tomorrow afternoon ^^. P.S. Rofl @ Sony Centre's price of the ZH700s - 100 GBP O_o- horizon21

Thanks for the consolation, ssrock64. My ship might just have a little wind in its sails. Very helpfully, astroid suggested me to get Sony MDR-ZX700. They look promising.- horizon21

Denon AH-D1100 Modding
A chain is as strong as its weakest link. I agree with the above statement, but one cannot use the aluminium cups without proper forks to hold them :) P.S. I also experienced some creaking of the plastic headband when I move my head but that is negligible for me.- horizon21

Update. I just shipped them back - their build quality is appalling - I discovered the infamous crack in one of the forks. I'm on the road to give up the idea of getting good cans :(- horizon21

Denon AH-D1100 Modding
Quote: Well, I believe that the Denon AH-D1001/1000's forks are made of metal. That's a huge let-down on denon's side. If they costed me ~50 bucks - whatever but at their RRP the build quality is ridiculous.- horizon21

Denon AH-D1100 Modding
Fate must be kidding me :( On my way back from the store with masking tape in hand, I noticed the infamous problem of the 1100 - a cracked fork T_T The 1100 is 2 days old! 2 days! I just packed the headphones to ship them back. Why, Denon, why did you not make those from metal.... I...- horizon21

What headphones to pair with MS1i?
I have a friend who's got Grado SR60s. When A-B comparing them with my Denon AH-D1100 I've found that my Denons provide quite the soundstage but beware of the bass. I love listening to Skrillex with them. In fact, I used Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites to burn them in. You can find them for...- horizon21

Thanks for the quick response! That definitely did the trick. All that is left now is to buy some masking tape.- horizon21

Headphone Sightings 2
Just as I was heading out of my dorms to have some breakfast, I saw a dude wearing Sennheisers (not sure how to tell the model). They were black and closed as far as I could see. I was wearing my Denon AH-D1100 and he was somewhat surprised to see another headphone-wearing lad.- horizon21

Denon AH-D1100 Modding
Very interesting mod! I'd like to try it as I really need to bring the mids of this baby forward. However, I'm afraid I'll break the phones if I remove the pads. Can someone provide a more extensive explanation about how it's done? Thanks in advance!- horizon21

First pair of good headphones?
I'd advise against the HTF600 unless you like your ears being melted... over and over again. And they've also got lots of head-hurting bass (and I consider myself to be a moderate basshead!).- horizon21

Want new headphones, but not sure which?
It might be wise not to follow a hype. In addition, most of the members here express a strong dislike for any of the Beats headphones, therefore I doubt anyone will recommend them to you. If you are after style - try searching for V-moda headphones. They look quite unique and I believe they fit...- horizon21

Brainwavz HM3 Review with video
Please do not be lead into believing that the HTF600 are as good as people say they are. Yesterday I shipped my pair back. First - the bad: pads are the worst that have touched my skin (they make me sweat after 30 seconds), there is simply too much bass which overshadows other frequencies. The...- horizon21

Help! Can't decide between Denon D2000 and AKG K550 !

Help! Can't decide between Denon D2000 and AKG K550 !
Well, I've tried the AH-D2000 and to tell you the truth, my head falls on the big side. Simply, they were too big for me! Maybe the store sample was like this, I do not know. They certainly have big cups that cannot make a seal as good (read: almost nonexistent) as the AH-D1100 can. The D2000...- horizon21
