Review by 'kingpage' on item 'Brainwavz S0 In-Ear Headphones'
S0 is the new little brother of S5 which I quite enjoy. It costs about half the price of its big brother, at US49.50. It's great to see more competition in the sub-$50 price range, because that's how much most mainstream consumers are willing to pay for a pair of good earphones/in-ear monitors...- kingpage

Review by 'kingpage' on item 'Brainwavz S5 In Ear Headphones'
Design and Comfort S5 is a new higher-end in-ear-monitor from Brainwavz retailing at about US$100. I’m glad Brainwavz has offerings at most price points below $200. It's great that companies such Brainwavz and SoundMagic help bring down prices; if not for them, we would still be paying an arm...- kingpage

[Review] Brainwavz HM5, A New Neutral Champ
I've got the white version. The 3D-printed cups indeed bring out the treble. In fact, it's a tad bright for me. For people who think HM5 is too smooth on the upper range or think there isn't enough energy in high frequencies, it is a good way to change the sound signature. However, because of...- kingpage

Creative Aurvana Live! 2
Puncturing a hole to create your own bass reflex port will only change the balance by decreasing the sub-bass and increasing the mid-bass, which then will introduce all kinds of problems for audiophiles (i.e. bloatedness, inbalance, overwhelmed mids, etc). That is unless you create a computer...- kingpage

Creative Aurvana Live! 2 Review and Mods
Put which pad where? Did you mean HM5 pad on CAL!2? I don't have access to CAL!1 anymore. Quote: It was very easy to disassemble, but one thing that bugged me was the small screws. I wouldn't want to unscrew them more than a couple of times, because I'm sure they will become...- kingpage

Creative Aurvana Live! 2
I've done some raw measurements. Check out if you want. What I like about it is that the emphasis is mostly in sub-bass. So the mids aren't affected unlike most bassy headphones. http://www.head-fi.org/t/694472/creative-aurvana-live-2-review-and-mods#post_10052487- kingpage

Reply to review by 'kingpage' on item 'Creative Aurvana Live! 2 Headset with 40mm Drivers and In-Line Mic'
It depends on what headphones you're used to. Most likely it will sound large to you, unless you've been spoiled by open-back headphones.- kingpage

Review by 'kingpage' on item 'Creative Aurvana Live! 2 Headset with 40mm Drivers and In-Line Mic'
Sound Quality Straight out of the box, it sounded great, pretty much like the original CAL!. I’ve done over 100 hours of burn-in. DAC is FiiO E10. As I mentioned in one of the posts, it reminded me a lot of Sennheiser HD 25-1-II. This can be a headphone for people who really appreciate bass...- kingpage

Creative Aurvana Live! 2 Review and Mods
I have upgraded my computer since last time I did measurements. The ADC (mic) is the built-in soundcard in Asrock Z77M. Both DAC and ADC have a flat response, much better than the cheap little USB sound device I used previously. I've made a new testing rig out of cardboard again. ...- kingpage

Creative Aurvana Live! 2 Review and Mods
Impedance: 32ohms (variable volume) Sensitivity: 105dB/mW Cable Length: 1.2m Price: US$199 ($129 now) The original Creative Aurvana Live! (aka CAL!), which is still available for sale, was derived from Denon D1001/D1000 using Foster drivers. CAL! is not only cheaper, but some would...- kingpage

Creative Aurvana Live! 2
The CAL!2 pads are, I think, slightly thicker, and about 0.5-1cm bigger (4.5-5 vs 5.5cm). I don't feel as though my ears are uncomfortably touching the driver grill like with the original CAL!. I plan to do some light modding to it after I've done the review, as I've done to the original...- kingpage

Creative Aurvana Live! 2
Got it this morning. Some initial impressions: great sounding headphone out of the box. Not as V-shaped as the original, which is good. Warm but detailed, it reminds me of Sennheiser HD 25-1-II. Now, some burn-in first.- kingpage

Upgraded from some cheap Hyundai HY-Z-5400 speakers to these Kenwood HM-332 speakers. Hifi system/CD players are much cheaper to buy second hand than standalone speakers and sound much better than most computer speakers. I doubt I could do better without shelling out $150-200 for some brandname...- kingpage

Anyone have experience with ATH-T400?
A couple of my housmates have got these. I'm having a listen to them now. I agree with much what Ubersanger said, they are definitely on the warm side. Bass is quite deep. Treble is very mild, which could be a plus for people who can't tolerate sparkly/harsh highs. Vocal is intimate. It's a...- kingpage

THE DIY HEADPHONE STAND THREAD
Quote: Before, it was too easy to tip over (only when you gave it a slight push or the headphone's sitting near the edge). I made an upgrade to my Headphone stand. It probably needs some painting, but it'll stay this way until I get some left-over paint from somebody. Perhaps I should...- kingpage

Headphone Choice
I had the Creative Aurvana Live!. It's great for movies and games as many people already know. I was blown away as a newbie. Then I had the HM5 (aka FA-003, Jayar, etc). It's much better than CAL! for just a bit more. You can read all the HM5/FA-003 threads and reviews to see what I mean. I sure...- kingpage
