Next step: CMA800R or CAS192?
The CAS192 Mini is available here with pics and description. It uses a different chip than the Q192 (WM8741 vs WM8740) and costs a little more even though it's just a DAC.- Omphalopsychite

6 Ethernet Cables Compared
Thanks elmoe. Unfortunately I didn't have a high-quality Purple or Pink available. The only ones I found were of very cheap quality and a different length so I didn't feel the comparisons would be valid. -
6 Ethernet Cables Compared
Thank you ab initio. An aubergine cable would absolutely be the best match by far. I say this in keeping with the established Head-Fi tradition of pontificating about things that one has no personal experience with since I don't listen to Wagnerian opera and have never heard an aubergine... -
6 Ethernet Cables Compared
1 April 2014 Loch Stahkenberyl NSW One aspect of cable technology which I feel is sorely neglected is that of cable colour. Audiophiles consider cable construction, materials, etc. but often disregard cable colour, typically settling for plain-vanilla black cables. I decided to try and...- Omphalopsychite

Questyle CAS192 mini dac
I've had Questyle CAS192 mini DAC for about a month and got the Questyle CMA800R headphone amp to go with it. I've been really pleased with the pair driving my HD800s. I don't experience any deficiencies with the sound but don't have any DACs other than the one in the iBasso DX100 DAP so I...- Omphalopsychite

How Music Hijacks Our Perception of Time
I found this a very interesting read: http://nautil.us/iss...ception-of-time Schubert is one of my favorite composers, and his String Quintet one of my favorite works. It doesn't always have that 'lost in time' experience for me but at times it does and it's truly ethereal. It's...- Omphalopsychite

Next step: CMA800R or CAS192?
Thank you to everyone for your responses. Being the intrepid person I am my decisions were made before reading your posts. My first purchase was the Questyle CAS192 MINI DAC (with the Wolfson WM8741). I couldn't afford both the CAS192 and the CMA800R so I went with the much cheaper...- Omphalopsychite

24/192 DAC still interesting?
A while back I bought CD quality, 24/96, and 24/192 recordings of a piece I am very familiar with. I couldn't tell the difference between the 24/96 and 24/192. Now I don't even bother with 24/192. I listen primarily to classical music and to me performance and recording usually outweighs any...- Omphalopsychite

Thanks everyone for the replies, I really appreciate it. The card is a 64GB Sandisk Ultra Class 10 (Transfer speeds up to 30 MB/s). The latest episode occurred when I put almost 10GB of music on it, 3GB or so of hi-res. I've done a factory reset but haven't reloaded the firmware. I...- Omphalopsychite

Thanks for the suggestion. I've considered it but the bugs reports really put me off. Better the Devil I know. BTW, can the scanning on the DX50 be turned off or is the same kind of problems going to arise with 128GB of music?- Omphalopsychite

iBasso DX100:24 bit for bit, PG 1> Reviews & Impressions, Downloads, VIDEO, NEW Firmware 1.4.2.
Is it possible to turn off the media scanning? I navigate using the hierarchical file structure and have no need for Albums, Genres, Artists, etc. It's very frustrating to be waiting for the scanning even when nothing has changed, or worse, being unable to access the file structure when the...- Omphalopsychite

Dell Venue 11 pro as music server
I'm getting a Mytek Digital Stereo192-DSD-DAC and am considering a Dell Venue 11 pro as a music server. I'd like to play DSD and other hi-res files but the storage requirements can fairly quickly exceed what's available for the Dell. The Dell has a USB 3 port. Would it be feasible to...- Omphalopsychite

iBasso DX100:24 bit for bit, PG 1> Reviews & Impressions, Downloads, VIDEO, NEW Firmware 1.4.2.
Back on pages 416 & 502 and the following there were discussions regarding the relative merits of the coax and optical connections to a dac. Some said coax was better, others the optical. It's been over a year since then and new firmware has come out and people have had more experience with...- Omphalopsychite

The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread
I'm considering getting the HD800 and have been reading about its sensitivity to sources. My rig is a DX100 & Portaphile 627X. Does anyone have experience with the HD800/627X pairing? Would this be a good match for the HD800?- Omphalopsychite

IEM Cases
I use a 9cm plastic container with a screw top that cost $1.25 at the local $2 store. To store my IEMs I place them in my palm and loosely wrap the cable around my hand then slide the cable off and put it in the container with the IEMs in the bottom. With a little care they come out with...- Omphalopsychite

Thanks jelt2359 for the elucidation. I have a DX100/627X combo and find the low bass which Mike describes a significant improvement over the DX100 by itself and just right for my taste.
