Just dont understand. How can they believe an Ethernet cable can improve sound?
Amusingly, iFi are hawking an Ethernet isolator on the front page. I'm sure I'll get grief for pointing out Ethernet is galvanically isolated already. They're claiming improved audio, of course. Any bets on how long till my post is removed?- craiglester

Isn't Ethernet galvanically isolated from the rest of the circuit? According to specs it should be.- craiglester

Sound Science = Thought Jail?
I've been on head-fi for something like 17 years, albeit with some big old gaps in there (life happens) but I don't think it was until the last few years that I really thought about the technical side of the equipment that I had and how I could improve on it. That led to a lot of reading, a few...- craiglester

why these days music from the 80s is intolerable to listen to
Back on the original topic, the more I think about it, the more this sounds like an issue with perception, rather than the recording quality. I mean the op is saying he used to like the recordings of these artists, but doesn't now. Seems to me the recording didn't change, but the listener did...- craiglester

AKG K340 repair/rewiee
I got some replacement pads off eBay, leather with memory foam in them. Bit thicker than the somewhat deflated stock pads, but it helps by moving the drivers a little further from ones ears, which seems to open up the sound a little. Replacement of the tensioners helped add back a little...- craiglester

Roon/Plex
I'm listening to bit perfect playback using UAPP streamed via the dlna server in Plex. Works great on my Pixel 6 pro (now that Google fixed USB audio in Android 12) with a THX Onyx. Edit. Typo.- craiglester

Sound Science = Thought Jail?
I went there once, found people discussing how different DACs sound based on measurements that were *way* below the threshold of human audibility. Not been back since, at least to the forums. I've found that practically any forum on any subject has it's fair share of "characters" but that's...- craiglester

Is LDAC (Real World) overrated?
I've been lucky with LDAC I guess, mine stays locked to 990 kbps, but saying that, I'm not sure I can hear a difference between that and 256 kbps AAC most of the time. Most codecs (except perhaps SBC) are pretty much transparent these days.- craiglester

LDAC - Any way to tell what bitrate Best Effort reverts to?
Go to system : developer options in the settings (assuming you've activated it) and scroll down to the USB part and it shows what the current Bluetooth audio is being sent as. You may need to be sending to your device to see the settings. My Pixel 6 pro to a LDAC receiver stays locked to 990...- craiglester

The volume is controlled from the app, there are no controls on the onyx.- craiglester

Testing audiophile claims and myths
I'm still confused how anyone could say that audible differences could be beyond measurement. I was under the impression measuring equipment was comfortably capable of measuring anything audible. If you can't measure it, is it really there?- craiglester

Will I benefit from getting a dac/amp for my IEM (currently TinHifi T2)?
Mine sound better though a Thx onyx than they do with just the supplied dongle that came with my essential phone. We're they volume matched? No, but it still sounded better to me at all volume levels. Ymmv. As a combo the onyx/T2 combo is very very good to my ears.- craiglester

The NPDT process 🙄
This guy keeps posting on Facebook ( he blocked me for commenting on it) about his high quality process for improving digital audio.. using youtube as his platform of choice to showcase his "work" on copyrighted music.. Check it out, it's quite amusing. https://npdt-process.com/ Do people...- craiglester

Bluetooth codecs in 2022 & your opinion
Each to their own preferences. There's no right or wrong when you're EQ ing to your own target curve, as it's very subjective by then. I think we got a bit off topic here..- craiglester

Bluetooth codecs in 2022 & your opinion
umm I don't think I said it was a Bluetooth thing but rather a sound signature thing. In theory you might argue any iem could be EQ'd to sound like any headphone, say Sennheiser HE1s, but realistically, it's pretty unlikely, wired or Bluetooth. Nothing against EQ either but if I want to listen...- craiglester

Bluetooth codecs in 2022 & your opinion
Maybe I was a little unclear. My preferred headphones don't have Bluetooth, and I'm not sure any EQ is going to make any TWS iem sound like my PS1000e or K340. I still prefer wired for simplicity's sake.- craiglester

Bluetooth codecs in 2022 & your opinion
I see no issues with it being wireless, my main issue is none of the headphones whose signature I like are Bluetooth. Using a Bluetooth adapter I might do, as long as it's sufficiently amped for the headphone. I don't really see much need for lossless via Bluetooth, I doubt i'd be able to...- craiglester

Advice requested. AKG K340 thinking of going balanced...
Wait.. massdrop did AKG 340s? How on earth did I miss that... Well I decided to bite the bullet and go for it. Balancing them was pretty easy, I just got out the multimeter, and worked out which of the 4 wires went to the correct pins on the xlr and it worked great. One thing I'll say is that...- craiglester

Advice requested. AKG K340 thinking of going balanced...
So, This is the situation currently. I'm running the following as a bedside system, as I'm mostly housebound these days, and do a lot of listening in bed. Currently my source is a Squeezebox Touch, running the RCA out to a THX 789 from Drop, passed through to a Darkvoice 336. This gives a...- craiglester
