If you like a 25dB bass boost over the stock signature, you should just get different headphones at that point.- dakanao

It's very hard to power because of redundant restricting of the driver vents inside the enclosure. If you remove those, they'll be very easy to drive and they become much faster, cleaner without losing bass quantity and they'll loose the slight 3-4khz edge they have.- dakanao

I find UPOCC to sharpen the transients/give more of an edgy sound compared to regular 4 core OFC cables. Yeah separation, bass impact/tightness and details get better, but at the cost of smoothness.- dakanao

[New] Philips Fidelio X1
So I've found tremendous potential in the modded Philips Fidelio L2 and my (since a few days) broken L1. The mods I did are simple, but take a lot of time and patience. It consists of putting micropore tape everywhere on the plastic surfaces on the front and backside, getting off the pin that's...- dakanao

Final Audio Design Impressions and Discussion Thread
It (the whole line stock, only E4000 and E5000 can be modded to have sticker removed) has some harmonic resonances issues due to sticker damping on back of driver. This is not noticable with more open eartips and a right fit, but compared to a modded Sony MH750 (open backed and with sticker...- dakanao

I also tried all of SBAF mods and the CC driver mod. The SBAF mods mostly lower bass quantity, no matter which mod they don't get rid of the slight 4 - 5khz edge because the metal mesh is still there. It's physics, metal material = metallic quality. Tube amps lessen it because they lower attack...- dakanao

It certainly is for many. You can get roughly the same sound as tubes on typical solid state by doing the mod, for those wondering.- dakanao

Removing the silver screen and using micropore tape around the diaphragm perimeter (1 or 2 layers, depending on your preference) and felt tape around everything else in the baffle, makes them smoother, more bassy and more natural sounding. Gone is the slight metallic edge that was caused, by...- dakanao

I meant regular Spiral Dot tips aka EP-FX9, not the + version because that one and the ++ have a different material then the regular Spiral Dots. You could use other versions of Comply tips, as long as the hole in the tip is atleast as big as the nozzle of the MH750. I found T-500 in reverse to...- dakanao

Yes I tried other silicon tips on other IEMs, but I always found they add a metallic tinge to the sound compared to foam tips. You're right with the lifespan of Comply tips. If you want to try silicon tips, I found the regular JVC Spiral Dots to sound the most natural (least amount of metallic...- dakanao

Comply T-500 medium or large, depending on what fits you best. No it's the opposite, it's better in reverse because that way the tip won't cover the IEM nozzle when they're in your ear.- dakanao

It can actually be extremely pleasant if you remove the all vent stickers from the back of the driver, then use Comply foam tips in reverse. I've just started listening to them that way, and they're even more pleasant than stock Final E5000 and E3000.- dakanao

Stacking magnets?
So I tried a 15mm diameter magnet on my open back CAL, with rear sticker removed, in the attracted position. It made it less sensitive and less smooth, it was even worse in the repelling position. It got me thinking, wouldn't a potmagnet be best for this? It shields the outer layer of the...- dakanao
