The Watercooler -- Impressions, philosophical discussion and general banter. Index on first page. All welcome.
Penon's higher end offerings don't seem too widely circulated, possibly due in part to the reluctance of consumers after the the majority of their prior iems were considerably cheaper. imo their offerings punch above their weight, especially when it comes to overall engagement with the music...- vaporsynthwave

I just picked up the DC-Elite and it's excellent. Haven't been able to remove the Z1R from it but I imagine the Szalayi has some wonderful synergy as well?- vaporsynthwave

The PENON official thread
Too expensive for the discovery thread and too cheap for the watercooler 😅 Kidding, some Penon releases like Quattro and Serial have been praised across segments- vaporsynthwave

The PENON official thread
hmmm about the price I expected. the same as the Legend, which seems to be the least discussed Penon release. Although it is a follow-up to the popular Volt and a more enticing (for many) configuration than all-BA. For now I will fight temptation, wait for more reviews and comparisons, and...- vaporsynthwave

Based on the reviews it seems like it'll be a nice contrast to my wm1am2 when I want a more energetic sound presentation. I haven't used anything with a stepped attenuator and was curious if the volume adjustment would be an issue but I guess the bird isn't too sensitive. I primarily use...- vaporsynthwave

MASS-Kobo Headphone Amp. model404
has anyone used the 475 with a Sony wm1am2/wm1zm2? They don't have a line out setting and I don't have the ground pin adapter but after cautiously minimizing the volume and connecting I'm not hearing any noise or interference. I've only used it with batteries. just wondering if there's any risk...- vaporsynthwave

that's true, I'm just being greedy. I use a dac/amp with LDAC when the need for convenience and usability trumps the need for the highest fidelity anyway. one reason I'll keep avoiding switching to an iPhone. Early on in the hobby I was resistant to using a dap but as I've acquired better gear...- vaporsynthwave

need sony to step into the ring. I know we're in the minority but I wish they'd put more into the audio and less into the fancy camera features. still contemplating upgrading to an Xperia due to the headphone jack/removable storage but they don't come cheap.- vaporsynthwave

I regret being too impatient to wait and listen to STORM at CJNY, that booth was swarmed every time I passed by. Although it falls into the same tier as things like the new UM releases and Rhapsodio Supreme v3 where I hope I don't love them for my finances' sake- vaporsynthwave

The Brise Audio Japan Cable Thread
I got it from a classifieds listing so I wasn't sure if it was typical for the cable or how the previous owner wrapped it. great cable otherwise, i just need to calm my ocd lol. I tried it with my Z1R buy didn't like how loosely they rotated so I might look into the BSEP -
The Brise Audio Japan Cable Thread

Divvying up the market by price can be tricky, I personally use this delineation: Tier 1: Doesn't leave the house Tier 2: For out and about/travel Tier 3: Work/working out/glove box some "mid-fi" I've been enjoying in the rotation lately: Final E5000, Penon Quattro, and FatFreq Maestro Mini- vaporsynthwave

5 things I don't need but want after CJNY 1. Aroma Audio Fei Wan: my favorite "energetic" set I've heard, although the Noble Ragnar is close behind and can be found for a better deal. 2. Canpur 622b: The first set with BC drivers that really convinced me to want to add one to the collection 3...- vaporsynthwave
