That's a bit of a price disparity there. :P Still, $1100 for Shangri-La Mini + $400 for EHA5 seems like a compelling "budget" option for those wanting to dip their toes into e-stats.

At least with the Asgard 3 you're not out a mountain of money if something goes kaboom. If I were you I'd be wary, but.... three years with no issues? Hmmmm, maybe the issue is overblown?

HE1000SE doesn't require a specialized energizer, so that might factor into the equation.

The Linlai balloon has been the best I've tried personally, but also pretty expensive. More refined upper frequencies which are smoother, and render spatial information really clearly. Strong tight bottom end as well, and overall very good clarity and detail. Auteur OG gets the least use...

I think it's been around that $1500-2000 mark for a couple years now, but now it's getting even tighter. Hifiman is AGGRESSIVELY pricing down their products to try and muscle out their competition, and now there's fewer worthy contenders than there used to be. That's definitely the price...

That's very interesting! Yeah the general consensus was that the H1 was very current-favorable, and from my own humble experience it seemed to sound slightly better on a SS amp.

I don't have room for a CRT but I do use a 4:3 LCD on a pivot arm which I use for messing with old computers (my other hobby).

Seems like there's zero demand for the Auteur OG. I had mine listed (limited zebrawood with rosegold and magnesium chasis) for $1050 and I had no takers. At that point I decided to keep them and honestly, they're a good compliment to my other headphones. A nice, smooth, mid-forward presentation...

Got my replacement pads in. Also got the new The Pro 2024 cable which you can see pictures of in this thread. It's interesting to see how the lambskin perf pads have evolved over the last four years. Newer ones are below the older ones.

Folkvangr was a crazy 10 tube monstrosity, and quite a bit thicker than the 2" chassis height of the Mjolnir 3. If he has a design that fits in a Bifrost/Asgard chassis, but needs two transformers to work, stick it in the Mjolnir dimensions. Maybe he'll even have room for a stepped attenuator...
