Balanced cable for Sennheiser
Hi, I recently saw a modified balanced cable (XLR3) for Sennheiser in a hi-fi shop. I also noticed some headphone amps do have XLR3 output for the headphones. But there is one thing I do not understand. I have balanced connection from my Cd player to the headphone amp. There are 3-pins...- yarinkel

Best Amp to stick between DAC1-USB and HD-650
My favourite amp for between a digital source and my HD600 (which should be similar in sonic signature to the HD650) is an Musical fidelity X-Can (v1 in my case). But then again it comes down to personal preference. Sound signatures between diferent amp are subtle but certainly noticeable. So...- yarinkel

Grado RS2 - better sound better than they look
Actually, on my RS1, after 5 years the foam pads are crumbling apart and need replacement. Otherwise still a few decades to go I would say.- yarinkel

Best headphone amplifier for Sennheiser HD600?
Hi Gako, I am also a big HD600 fan, prefering it over my grado and Staxx headphones for quite a variety of music. As standard headphones amp I own the Grado RA1 and the Musical Fidelity Xcan (first version, with default tubes). I have to say that the Musical Fidelity Xcan is my favorite...- yarinkel

STAX SRM-717 vs. SRM-007t?
First of all, RickG, thank you for taking the time to type parts of Stereophile's review. It is always informative to see what professional reviewers think about equipment you own, where you agree, where you differ and so on. Vertigo-1 , what a mean by grain is a way of presenting the music...- yarinkel

STAX SRM-717 vs. SRM-007t?
Oops, I forgot the last question. The 007t uses the modern 6FQ7/6CG7 (4 of them). When you switch it on, it preheats for ~20 seconds. Not much warming up effect however on this amp, during the 1st hour it might become slightly smoother, but then, I found no further improvement.- yarinkel

STAX SRM-717 vs. SRM-007t?
I compared them during 2 weeks them before going for the 717, but it was 3 month ago, so remember that my comments might be biased. Both are very well built. The volume control is heavy, smooth and feels solid. There is strictly no precedence of one channel on the other, even at ridiculously...- yarinkel

newbie: amps.. what do they do?
What makes a good headphone amp good is the same as what any regular HI-FI amp is supposed to do : Reproduce the music in a exact and/or enjoyable way. You need dedicated amps for headphones because the impedance of headphones has nothing to do with the impedance of regular speakers. The...- yarinkel

List of Balanced output Headphone amps
From all amps I tried, the only ones having balanced input where the Stax SRM-717 (solid state, FETs), the SRM-006t and SRM-007t (Tubes). Currently I own the SRM-717 connected with balanced cables. It has unbalanced RCA input as well, but I never tried it. Would be interesting to see if I can...- yarinkel

Trashing Your Headphones
Good idea ! Let's release all my frustration by trashing my babys in public. Grado RS-1 : Build quality is bad for the given price. They hurt my ears after more than 2 hours of usage - Uncomfortable. Fatiguing sound. Colored. The sound stage is too close. Sennheiser HD600 : Cheap...- yarinkel

Slight buzzing in Stax Lambdas
I've never noticed any buzzing on the recent Stax systems I've tried (Signature and Omega II). However, I've read an article some time ago where the author describes a side effect that could be your problem. Quote : "Sure enough, on certain strongly plucked notes, the guitar sounded as...- yarinkel
