    Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners

If the vintage equipment has been sitting unused for a long time, it is very important that you use a variac to bring the voltage up slowly and reform the caps. Saves a potential big mess.....   As long as the caps are good, you may not have to replace them immediately (I know that many will...

Your new 737 is gorgeous! Y'all are inspiring me to dig out some of my integrated amps and receivers and take them for a drive with my headphones...... I feel the itch growing..... Must get more headphones. Maybe a vintage pair of Koss Pro 4AA.....? :D

All good points.   delrosa describes a shared living area that will still have his computer, TV etc. in the same room. My presumption (always dangerous) is that putting up room treatments and completely taking the area over for audio equipment may not be feasible. Hence the thought process of...

Doesn't have to be a Mac....Marantz, Pioneer and Luxman also make great vintage equipment. :-)   2 Channel Audio Forum looks pretty interesting. I'll have to check it out. :-)   Curious regarding your take on speakers?   Thank you. :-)

Understood. Like you, I spent a lot of money on the 'flavor of the month' amp, speaker, turntable, cable (don't even get me started on cables..... ;-) ).    I am not very current on the newer, more headphone specific, amps and will have to defer to others on that front.   I see no reason...

Appreciate being new at audio. I was there once myself. Caught the audio bug in ~1970.....   The speakers I mentioned will not be as finicky about where you place them and will still sound good. Plus listening distance and 'sweet spot' are not as critical.   A good vintage amp (McIntosh...

Have you thought of something like a McIntosh MA-6100 or MA-6200 driving some Tannoy, JBL or Altec monitors? The Mac will also drive almost any headphone and it looks great. Tannoy, JBL and Altec monitors are used in recording studios all over the world. They sound great at the listening...

Just my opinion but the set up for Video and/or gaming will be different than one that maximizes audio fidelity. Personally, I would go with something vintage. Efficient speakers that work reasonably close. Nice 70's integrated amp. What is your total budget?

You are not alone. I always liked the old Sherwood receivers, too.   One of the vintage receivers in my small collection is the Sherwood SEL 200. GREAT tuner, very smooth sound. I'll have to try it as a headphone amp.....

Happy to provide recommendations. The following will help: Room size? Seating position/distance from speakers? Dedicated or shared listening room? Type(s) of music? Personal preferences (lots of bass? Pure mids? Etc?)? Thank you.

    Easy Bose IEM Improvement.

The first set of IEMs I bought (way back in 2005/2006) were the original Bose. Thought they were a step up from the Apple earbuds but have never really been happy with the fit or the sound. Picked up some Comply T400 memory foam ear tips for my Sound Magic IEMs and discovered thar they will...

HI fi is so damn addictive !

In my opinion, investing in good audio equipment and the associated source material is much cheaper than therapy. ;-) And more fun. ;-)

Been lurking for awhile and figured I should introduce myself. Increased work travel motivated me to put together a reasonable portable rig (thanks to the wealth of great info on this site) that includes my 3rd generation (I think) iPod touch, Fiio LOD cable, C&C BH2 amp, Koss ProDJ200...
