The Stax SR-L500 and SR-L700 Impressions Thread

Mulveling, is the Carbon much better with the L700 than KGST and if so does the price difference vs KGST justify buying the Carbon? Do you have an opinion about the 323S with the L700; I listen at low volume (65 dB with speakers) and wonder how much benefit there is at low listening volumes vs a...

I totally agree, Koonhua90.  I doubt that Hifiman will exceed the 009 aural experience by a significant amount, never mind justifying significantly increased cost! Furthermore, I am guessing the 009 might get revised in the next 1-2 years.

Kugino, are you aware of any builders in the U.S. with similar build and parts quality like Mjolnir Audio/Birgir and Geoff? Thank you.

I agree with you Dr. T  ...but, I will bet dollars to doughnuts, as they used to say in the Great Depression, that STAX will do a significant revision of the 009 to maintain its flagship status for several reasons: 1. To increase the separation between it and the L700 2. To fend off competition...

Rather than either, have you tried STAX? I listened to the ether right next to the ether electrostatic at can jam recently and clearly preferred the electrostatic. Interestingly, so did the Mr. Speakers staff. The STAX 2170 System is $500 on Price Japan. It requires a wall wart to convert to 120...

Your point is well taken.  In my profession, I at least make an attempt to quantify to the extent possible.  No question a machined aluminum housing and the improved space in the 009 headphone, and though very similar, nontheless different sound element,  to create soundstage are the "best."...

Here is the post I referred to above in post #18.  I have no doubt this is accurate:   http://www.head-fi.org/t/785949/the-stax-sr-l500-and-sr-l700-impressions-thread/15     Consider:   KGST from Mjolnir Audio/Spritzer $3000 retail US cost for STAX L700 $1400,                 Total Cost...

Quoted from post #204 (Trantime) "I also heard the SR009 and BHSE at the HeadAmp exhibit.  It was easy the hear why people say it's the most transparent amp you can buy.  The amp and hp is virtually invisible but it's not to my taste.  It sounds very dry and sterile."     This was my...

I will offer this personal opinion, Venture guy.  I would purchase a used 252 amp dirt cheap and use it to power the L700 until the funds are available to purchase a KGST new  from Mjolnir Audio (made by Spritzer) or by Headintheclouds (or a used KGST). Perhaps other members can suggest other...

I am afraid I don't have personal experience with the Spritzer modded 727, however if you search head-fi with "Spritzer mod 727" you should find plenty of info.

These are my STAX notes to myself from CanjamSocal 2016. Comments? * Stax L700 versus 507. The 700 was definitely significantly superior. About 40% greater soundstage. You could hear the hall ambience better. The 507 sounded muffled, small, and definitely not as much meat on the bones...

Some in this forum have advocated the KGST as a great match, but at about triple the price.  The 006 was used at the recent CanJam Socal STAX demo. The 323 is probable best cost to performance ratio.  I use one now for the 207, and intend to get an L700.  Another thought is a used 727 with the...

Hopefully Spritzer will join this discussion; he has expressed the opinion that the 323 is the best amplifier in the entire Stax amp line also the best value. In addition he expressed who's that the 727 doesn't become better until it is modified. With the 207, I have not felt that the bass is...
