ES2a discussions \ reviews \ reasoning \ impressions
I think it will be worth it getting a tube pre amp. To me, synergy is more important than outright transparency. It will tame the brightness and should provide better timbre and a more holographic stage.- TheAbyss2022

Vintage OG and Present Day TOTL Impressions
In direct comparison between CRBN 2 and MK1 007, CRBN has more midrange clarity and the vocals are warmer and fuller. The vocals are probably my favourite aspect of the CRBN 2. The tonality is good but becomes an issue when listening to classical or orchestral as it's too dark and the 007 has...- TheAbyss2022

Vintage OG and Present Day TOTL Impressions
It doesn't really since we've had warmer and bassier stats like the 007. The one headphone that truly redefines what a stat could sound like is the Sennheiser HE1.- TheAbyss2022

Vintage OG and Present Day TOTL Impressions
My main issue with CRBN 2 is lack of air and instrumental placement in the stage. It sounds like all the instruments are bunched up together in the midrange. I can live with the dark treble but the soundstage needs to be addressed. Whilst the MK1 007 has a small stage, it retains air between...- TheAbyss2022

ES2a discussions \ reviews \ reasoning \ impressions
Completely incorrect, it's a hybrid tube amplifier with the option to bypass the solid state and go completely tube. I know the tubes work because I've tube rolled a few sets which all sound very different. My favourite pair is Sylvania, thicc and warm...- TheAbyss2022

I've decided that I will be using the Phantom to drive the 2a until T2 arrives. The tube plus mode brings a really nice warmth to the midrange and the timbre is so much better. I don't like using it as a pre to the Carbon cc as the carbons neutrality creeps back and stage is expended which I...- TheAbyss2022

Audeze LCD-4
What I can say is that the LCD 4 offers the best vocals, bass, resolution, imaging, timbre and midrange compared to the LCD 2 & 3. There shouldn't be a hesitation or weirdness with them so has to be some issue with the drivers. I would send it to their service team to see if it is an issue with...- TheAbyss2022

Audeze LCD-4
There must be something wrong with the drivers. You may have to pay around £1,200 for new drivers if not in warranty.- TheAbyss2022

Perhaps the input tubes will be a big difference. I would highly recommend a pair of Sylvania's to give you a thicker, bassier and more holographic sound.- TheAbyss2022

Megatron would probably be the best amp for tube rolling with estats. Have you tried tube rolling with your T2? I wonder if Sennheiser, Hifiman or Warwick Acoustics will dabble in the ribbon market. The holy trinity (HE1, Shang Sr, Aperio) are all estats for a reason but perhaps we could see a...- TheAbyss2022

It does but it compromises on too many things for the price so for £6k its definitely not worth it. If it was like £2K I would happily recommend it lol.- TheAbyss2022

I've heard every Audeze with the exception of the LCD-R and my favourite Audeze is actually the LCD-24. It needs some work with tubes and a bit of EQ but it has a speaker like presentation with an insane amount of air, no other planar I have heard has a soundstage like this, the depth this...- TheAbyss2022

I should have specified that an Audeze employee stated that his favourite pairing was with the Carbon CC whilst Audeze as a company recommend the Z10e which is widely agreed is not a good pairing. I'm listening to CRBN 2 right now and it does sound good, just not £6K good lol.- TheAbyss2022

What about other estats? Audeze says the Carbon CC is their favourite pairing with CRBN. I have T2 coming as well so that will actually be the best pairing with it. Do you own any Audeze planars? Because the CRBN does have their typical Audeze house sound found in their planars.- TheAbyss2022
