Testing audiophile claims and myths
Thanks for this... After snooping around head-fi for a while, I was beginning to think I actually have hearing loss not being able to tell the difference between different types of cables and certain encoding options.- tabacaru

OK2 problem - biased right channel?
Hey all, I purchased OK2s a while back and for some reason found that the left channel seemed very slightly weaker than the right. I returned them and received a new pair but the same problem persists... It's strange because some songs seem balanced but most do seem that they are...- tabacaru

Speaker Amps
Anything that is a 'gain clone' will do fine (Arrow linked a version of it). Google it or check diyaudio.- tabacaru

Amplification and Sound Quality
That clears a few things up, Erik. On that note though, if I'm using the iPod as the source - wouldn't its amplifier have it's own impedance curve which will ultimately affect the curve of an external amplifier as well? I guess your source is quite important.- tabacaru

Amplification and Sound Quality
I've often heard, including on this forum, that amplification means better sound quality. That is, say I'm using a pair of headphones that have a low enough impedance to not require amplification from a source such as an iPod, people claim that if I were to listen to the same source with the...- tabacaru

Audiotrak Prodigy HD2 Advance 'Popping'
Wow it actually ended up being my wireless network PCI card... took it out and the sound is flawless. Time to get a USB wireless network card I guess.- tabacaru

Audiotrak Prodigy HD2 Advance 'Popping'
Same symptoms in Ubuntu although at a slightly faster frequency... will test tomorrow on a different PC to rule that out and I guess I'll return it if it still does the same thing.- tabacaru

Audiotrak Prodigy HD2 Advance 'Popping'
I've turned off line-in both in directsound and in ASIO yet the popping remains. Oddly enough, If i set the hardware buffer offset to 0ms in my ASIO4ALL control panel, the popping occurs almost all the time. I've tried a different PCI slot as well. I'm out of ideas.- tabacaru

Audiotrak Prodigy HD2 Advance 'Popping'
Hey all, I just purchased an HD2. Every so often when sound is playing, at random intervals, the sound output will have several 'pops'. The pops are at a slightly lower volume level than the music playing, but very audible. They last about 1-2 seconds and occur at about a 10Hz frequency...- tabacaru

CMOY Virtual Ground Questions
I have read over that, I just couldn't find any specifics on the actual values of the caps/resistors as well as how the input caps provide more current. (There is only one line that says something along the lines of, "we need caps to provide more current").- tabacaru

CMOY Virtual Ground Questions
Hey all, Just had two quick questions about the virtual ground circuit used in the CMOY headphone amp that you seasoned veterans may know how to answer. 1. What are the caps used for? Is it to provide more current? 2. Why are the values for the resistors/caps chosen to be...- tabacaru

Millett "Starving Student" hybrid amp
Does anyone know if it's possible to use IRF840 mosfets instead of the IRF510? I only have one IRF510 lying around and don't want to order any right at the moment! Thanks!- tabacaru

Cmoy build (first time) uneven voltages
Annddd....... the problem magically fixed itself! Edit: I lied, I was using the 'good' amp. The problem remains. Edit 2: I found the problem, it was the potentiometer.- tabacaru

Cmoy build (first time) uneven voltages
So I did just a basic test between the two, and I came across something I can't understand. (Using an oscilloscope) Both the amps output nice signals at various frequencies for both sine and square waves but the 'bad' amp doesn't output a nice sound at all. I am also starting to think this...- tabacaru
