Side by side comparison: Fiio BTR3K iBasso DC05 Headphones for the comparison: Hifiman Edition X V2 Audeze LCD-XC 2021 Few music for the comparison: David Byrne - Grown backwards / Glass, concrete & stone Antonio Sánchez - Birdman / Get ready Christopher Schwarzwälder & lannis Ritter - Out the Window / Out the Window Prolog: I bought to myself the G5. The portability is a must for me. I really enjoy to listen music from my couch or the balcony or sometimes at my desk and the G5 fits well for this purpose. The wired and the wireless (BT) connection...
  2. HiFiMan Edition X V2 Over-ear Headphones

-- Be aware this review not about this headphone's sound. You already can find many sound related reviews about the Edition X V2 (HEX2). The whole point is to share my long term reliability and support experiences. So let's begin. -- When i bought this headphone, one of the hinge is squeaked a bit. A very small amount to the hinge from my bicycle teflon spray and the problem is gone forever. This was the only issue in the years. The real apropos of this review is, i just replaced the earpads and the headstrap. My local reseller can not help in...
  3. iFi iCan Nano Portable Headphone Amp

    3.50 star(s)
I use this mobile headphone amp more than a year and i like it. The build quality is very high, the accumulator capacity is superb and working well as a small mobile amplifier. The sound is detailed with very good dynamics. The Xbass function is an overshoot with the most headphones and records, but useful with some old/bad records or with bass shy headphone (like Sennheiser HD558/598). The 3D HolographicSound function is smudge the soundstage at the precisely mastered albums, but help at some old or heavily speaker optimised records. I found...
  4. Audio-Technica ATH-R70x | R Series Professional Open Back Dynamic Reference Headphone

I tried with this sources : Samsung S4 mini : The S4 simply don't have enough power for enjoyable performance with this 470 ohms headphone. desktop Mac, iPad, Fiio X1 : Mostly usable but far from the R70x limits. Fiio X1 + iFi iCan nano (low gain) : This is where the R70x begin to shine. Good dynamics, details, well balanced sounding. Fiio X1 + Fiio K5 (mid gain) : The bigger output power help to improve the bass extension. Very pleasant combination for longer listening sessions.   With bigger ear pads and better 3D soundstage this would be the...
  5. Fiio K5 Desktop Headphone Amplifier

    4.00 star(s)
I use this desktop amp more than a week and here is my quick review.   I mostly use this gear combination : Fiio X1 + iFi iCan nano + Audio Technica R70X For K5 testing purposes : Fiio X1 + Fiio K5 + Audio Technica R70X or MSR7 I tested only with the top side USB dock connector. Mid gain with R70X and low gain with MSR7.   The amp build quality is in pair with other Fiio devices, well built but not premium level. The SQ is definitely better in every aspects than the X1's built in headphone amp. This is not a surprise of course. :-)  ...
  6. Sennheiser HD 558

    4.50 star(s)
Pros: - Airy presentation with good soundstage (great for music and movie too) - Balanced, entertaining sound - One of the most comfortable headphone what i have   Cons: - external amplifier (or a beefy DAP) is required for maximum enjoyment (necessary for tight bass) - Little short of the bass quantity ( few +dB bass boost will help) - Not the most exciting highs - The sound is not as detailed as the hi-res headphones - Only one long cable came with it by default
  7. Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro

    2.50 star(s)
Pros: - Comfort (well built and padded with light weight) - Effortless listen (good for background music and forgiving with bad recordings) - Over the average soundstage (compared to other closed backs) - Headset option for gamers   Cons: - Lack of tightness and fine details (dull for my ears) - Overpriced if you look at the SQ only
  8. AUDIO TECHNICA ATH-MSR7

    4.50 star(s)
Pros: - Extremely detailed sound (if you want more, multiplies the price!) - Balanced sound with slightly mid/mid-high forwarded - 3 cables by default - It feels well built - Almost everything playing well   Cons: - Lack of air (not the best choice for big orchestral compositions or other complex musical structures) - Little heavy (especially as portable device)     P.S. Without burn in (a day or more) the MSR7 is a little sibilant.
  9. Audio Technica ATH-ANC1 QuietPoint Active Noise-Cancelling On-Ear Headphones

    4.00 star(s)
It is a basic model with lot of plastic parts but well built feeling. Thanks to the nice ear-pads and the light weight, it is comfortable up to an hour. For a longer period without a break, the clamping force is too high, the headband is not padded and your ears will be warm as many other closed back on-ear headphones. The sound is well balanced with stiff bass, pleasant mid tones and enjoyable high frequencies. This is true with active noise-cancelling. Without NC the sound is mushier and less fun. Othervise the active noise-cancelling is very...
