Need Advice for a major Headphone Upgrade
The decision for the Elear is final now, I sent the other cans back and wrote a review on the Elear here: http://www.head-fi.org/products/focal-elear/reviews/18342 Tomorrow the Chord Mojo should arrive. That should be interesting. I hope it is an upgrade. Still have the Ifi Micro Ican SE...- sunToxx

Review by 'sunToxx' on item 'Focal Elear'
After using an IE-8 for a very long time (and sometimes a HFI-780), I decided to make a major upgrade. After a decent burn in period, I compared the Focal Elear to a Denon AH D7200, Shure SRH1540 and a Beyerdynamics DT1770 Pro at my house. As source I used the 44.1kHz Qobuz stream in WASAPI and...- sunToxx

Need Advice for a major Headphone Upgrade
Thanks :) I did get some doubts (because of the price, never spent that much on a headphone before), so I did some more comparing and reasoning. The DT1770 which I compared again, suprisingly did not have that annoying tone around the 500Hz area anymore. Maybe due to burnin? I had it run some...- sunToxx

Need Advice for a major Headphone Upgrade
Yes, that's the plan. I am still amazed at the sound of those. Did not expect that an open headphone can sound like that. Always thought there must be a big penalty to impact. I always prefered closed ones too, as my PC was quite noisy and I got the window open a lot. I compared though with...- sunToxx

Need Advice for a major Headphone Upgrade
They both (Shure SRH1540 and Focal Elear) arrived this morning. Seems they are burned in already, at least both sound great. I think I'm in love, lol. Actually with both. The 1540 has a tad too much bass, but that's not realy a problem. Especially at low volumes it sounds really nice. At...- sunToxx

Need Advice for a major Headphone Upgrade
Thanks! You are right, they do already sound a bit more open now than the DT1770, more airy. How does the stage compare to the 1540? Btw I found good offers for the Focal Elear and the 1540 at reduced prices (both opened B-Ware with full waranty and possibility to return them), so I told...- sunToxx

Need Advice for a major Headphone Upgrade
I just played a match of BF1 and that really reveals the difference in dynamics. The DT1770 is really a perfect gaming headphone. The explosions are a lot more fierce and footsteps seem to be audible a bit better. A real pity it has that peak around 500Hz.- sunToxx

Low noise usb soundcard for sleeptalk recording
Maybe you could use a workaround by recording the output via something with noisecancelation like Teamspeak? If I remember right, you had a test mode in it's options, where you hear yourself talk. If you leave that on overnight and record the stereo-mix it might work. Some onboard soundcard...- sunToxx

Help for closed headphone
You could also have a look at Logitech UE6000, they used to be in that pricerange, but can be bought really cheap now (around 60€). They got some quite good reviews, although the noise cancelling feature degrades the sound a bit when turning it on.- sunToxx

Everything clicks/pops/crackles. Am I going insane?
There are rather expensive devices that "filter" the electricity (line-filter?). As your mobile devices work fine (from battery), that might be a solution. This is something like it I believe: http://www.oehlbach.com/en/power/xxl%C2%AE-powersocket-908- sunToxx

Need Advice for a major Headphone Upgrade
The D7200 have been burning in for about 24hours. First impression is really nice. They are defenitely easier to the ear than the DT1770. The biggest difference to me seems to be that they don't have that uncomfortable peak around 500hz (according to my EQ testing). With the DT1770 it can...- sunToxx

Need Advice for a major Headphone Upgrade
Ifi arrived today, D7200 due tomorrow. The mids in the DT1770 seem to be a tiny bit less tiring for me with the Ifi Micro Ican SE, but the difference is minimal. The sound is pretty much the same again (hooked it up to the Marantz). The 3D and Bass Boost work nicely, although the "Surround"...- sunToxx

Marantz HD DAC1 vs Soundblaster Z
The soundblaster is new too, btw. I just replaced my old Auzentech XiFi Forte 7.1 with it a week ago. Although that used to be a 200€ card and featured better hardware than the Creative cards back in the day, the new 70€ Soundblaster Z and the 750€ Marantz CAD1 both (obviously, as they both...- sunToxx
