ZMF Atrium - new open-back co-flagship
"Tight and conjested" are descriptors I would have used on initial impression. But certainly not after plenty of burn in.- Steve Wilcox

ETHER 2: Impressions and Discussion
I like my E2s a lot but strongly dislike the synthetic pads. They just feel cheap and nasty and it baffles me why a product of this quality doesn't have leather/suede options which, for me, feel and sound much better. I've attached some ZMF perforated leather pads that work very well. Not a...- Steve Wilcox

ETHER 2: Impressions and Discussion
I recently bought an Icon Audio HP8 MK II OTC tube amp, primarily to use with my ZMF Headphones. However, I'm also loving my Ether 2s from this. It's a British amp but it's available in the US. See its own thread for more info.- Steve Wilcox

Best DAP for streaming Qobuz
Is it safe to assume that if you can use a streaming app on a DAP (I use Qobuz) you will be able to import music for offline listening in the same way that you could on a phone? I apologise that this goes beyond the OPs question but it seems an appropriate place to ask.- Steve Wilcox

Dragonfly COBALT vs.............Discussions
I get what sounds to be the same thing on my LG V30 phone. It kicks in about every 15 mins and lasts about 10 to 20 seconds. There's no problem using the Cobalt on my tablet or laptop so it seems to be a device specific thing.- Steve Wilcox

Best Smartphone for audiophile Part II (Updated: Jan 2020)
I'm not sure I fully understand what you're saying here but putting the LG phones into high impedance mode isn't just about increased volume. It changes the output impedance which changes the response of the attached headphones. This can differ from headphone to headphone but I doubt you'll...- Steve Wilcox

ETHER 2: Impressions and Discussion
Nothing fancy. Just some 'Prit Stick' type glue as we call it in the UK. They use it in schools a lot for children to stick paper. I've found it's sticky enough to hold the pads on firm, but not so sticky that anything is damaged if you pull them off. I imagine that the sticky ring that DCA use...- Steve Wilcox

ETHER 2: Impressions and Discussion
Listening to my Ether 2s with ZMF Universe perforated lambskin pads as I read your post Ake-Y. The slight size difference hasn't proved to be a problem over time and the ZMF pads, for me, have better feel and comfort and give the audio quality an uplift - though it's been so long since I...- Steve Wilcox

Qobuz Lossless Streaming Service Thread
I'm thinking that perhaps when you purchase an album from Qobuz, this then exists outside of the Qobuz app, in the same way as albums you purchase elsewhere? Qobuz isn't a generic music player app in the same way as, for example, UAPP or Neutron, so it won't play in Qobuz?- Steve Wilcox

ZMF Verite Closed-New Closed Back ZMF Flagship.
I bought the monkeypod VCs a couple of years or so back and listen mainly on a Pathos Aurium. I was influenced by @Monsterzero's comparison with the Verite Opens - he marginally preferred the VCs based purely on listening preference. There are plenty of times when isolation is useful for me so...- Steve Wilcox

Best Smartphone for audiophile Part II (Updated: Jan 2020)
I've had what might be the same problem with the V30/Cobalt. I get an awful squeeling type noise for about 20 secs every 15 mins or so, making the combination unusable. The Cayin RU6 works flawlessly and is very impressive.- Steve Wilcox

Astell&Kern A&futura SE180 - The First Modular DAP from Astell&Kern
Thanks very much for clearing that up. I guess I've been spoiled with my LG V30 which is a Roon endpoint but also runs Roon Remote, as well as, for the last week or so, Roon Arc. It would be great if Roon Arc can be made to run on the se 180. Not having full control of Roon whilst using the...- Steve Wilcox
