If you're using an iPod, just make sure the firewire has enough power to charge the pod. I know that's an issue on many low end cards. If you don't have a pod, then who cares. Same issue on the USB2.0 if you have power hungry devices like a hard drive. I tried a different card that wouldn't...

I bought a D-Link model at Fry's (Outpost.com) for $69 IIRC. Windows XP built-in drivers work great. I can load my 20G pod via USB in about 20 minutes. YMMV.
