I have been using Etymotic 4S's for many years along with a XIN amp and an old RIO Karma. At the time I purchased the Ety's there really was nothing else. Now I see that there are many other options. Before I spend $94 to repair the Ety's I would like to know if there is something better...

Another possibility is to purchase a lightly used SM3V3. Since Xin has come out with the V6, I have seen some V3's for sale. You can then update it when you have more money, if you wish. I have both the V3 and the V6 and find both to be excellent amps.

I recently purchased the Samsung MT6Z for my wife to use in the gym. The "Z" is 1 gig, or you can get a 256k or 512K version. The reviews have been great, and I think it sounds fabulous. It even drives my Etymotic ER4S's pretty well. Has a great built in FM tuner, EQ, voice record microphone...

I have the volume level set at 20 give or take 1 or 2, with the normalization set to "off". That seems loud enough to me and I think I would be uncomfortable with it any louder. I don't like to play anything too loud. I think some of my slight hearing loss came about at a concert that I attended...
