    Anyone else not happy with the TripleFi10's?

    Regardless of what others say, the phones do take a while to burn in. I received mine 2 weeks ago and were horrified by how they sounded... paid $300 for them too! They sound much, much better now - and I alternate between different headphones so I'm pretty sure it's not placebo.

    Hi-MD vs iPod: MZ-NH1 vs iPod Mini reviewed

    Quote: We are developing a software application called the Hi-MD wave converter (as a companion to Sonic Stage) that will allow the consumer to convert the uploaded files (that were recorded from the Hi-MD) into WAV. Since WAV = container for PCM... does 'convert' apply to PCM or...

    NAD c542, pimeta, dt880s, will it be too bright?

    MG Head = single ended triode based tube Rudistor/Gilmore V2 = solid state ... These are two totally different amp types, it really is comparing apples and oranges. What's more dangerous is predicting what an amp should sound like based solely on the topology it applies. One amp doesn't...

    NAD c542, pimeta, dt880s, will it be too bright?

    I couldn't tell you what tubes are worth, I've never bought any from eBay. I get my tubes from a friend who's been collecting tubes for 10+ years, and I just rummage through his stuff to find what I like and pay him AUD20 per 12AX7. It's not just the tubes that change the sound, swapping...

    NAD c542, pimeta, dt880s, will it be too bright?

    A PIMETA doesn't give the DT880 enough juice. And a C542 isn't bright, really. C542 + stock MG Head + DT880s would give you VERY strong overwhelming mids, making it warm but not bright or bassy. Changing the tubes on the MG Head and tweaking it will drastically change the way your entire...

    NAD C542 ---> how is it ?

    The Cambridge has that tacky looking grey backed LCD display though. I think both units can be favorable depending on the type of music you listen to, and as usual, nothing beats trying it out for yourself.

    NAD C542 ---> how is it ?

    I run the C542 in a pure silver setup, and TBH it's a tad, just a tad dark. Comparing silver and silver coated OFC, silver seems to open up the highs a little more, but this doesn't even add up enough to have a major effect on your listening. In fact, OFC is more than good enough. Don't bother...

    Hi-MD vs iPod: MZ-NH1 vs iPod Mini reviewed

    Quote: Mentioning data corruption issues seems moot unless you know exactly how it occurs. It's good to mention as a warning, but doesn't seem necessary and somewhat undermines the appeal of the NH1. I would see if you can reproduce what occured and then go forth with that. The...

    Pictures of your Portable Rig

    Bleh. No lugging 'portable' amps with me while running after buses. MD setup is identical to my boss Kurisu's (shame on him, he's using LP2 on his DS8 ), usual portable setup consists of a 20GB bar of soap, DIY 4P -> 4S converter (silver wire for everything, yayy!), and Etys.

    C542 vs C222ES

    Hey, I'm planning to either the Sony C222ES or the NAD C542. Provided that both came up to be around the same price, which would be a better deal? I don't have any SACDs but the added benefit of SACD capability might be beneficial for the future. I do plan to keep this for a few years before...

    Why I am miffed at the iPod

    Uhm, you have a GFX5900 in a system powered by a second generation Athlon. And you're also saying you can't afford 250 bucks for a mobo/CPU upgrade. Sorry, but that makes absolutely no sense to me. A budget video card would have made little performance difference due to your CPU bottleneck...

    Need recommendation on MD Recprder with Atrac Type R

    Quote: The R50 is the best SP recorder Over my dead body. ATRAC v4 + a 16-bit ADC isn't going to make it anywhere close to the best recorder out. I dare say that the DR7 makes the best recording portable, be it SP or LP. On a side note, ATRAC-R is only ATRAC v4.5 that does...

    new MD player suggestions?

    Line outs: new Sharp vs. new Sony, Sharp wins, hands down. old school Sharp vs. old school Sony, Sharp wins, Sony's only worthy competitor being the R50/R37 (the R37 is a striped down R50). IMO, if you're thinking of the R909, you're better off with a DR7.

    Current best portable cassette player

    my last 2 cassette walkman units were the WM-FX2 and the GX654 :P has anyone had any experiences with the GX822? I so wanted that unit a couple of years ago, but I believe it was never for sale outside Japan, hence I never got to see it
