They look a lot like the flats that I have, though there is the possibility that they could be a well done mod. Note: I'm basing a lot of this off the slits (or whatever they are) around the center of the pads.

It appears to be flat pads.

I don't know if it's just me, but this kind of feels like a money grab by the studio. One new track and some alternative takes doesn't seem like much. Of course this won't most likely stop me from buying it. I'm a bit too much of a fan for that...

I've never found the K501s boring, just disappointed by the lack of bass. I'll try listening to them a bit more tonight to see if I can get a better impression of them. As for damaging the hearing, I don't believe I have much to worry about as I have a tendency to listen at low levels...
