    Topping D30 DSD DAC XMOS/CS4398

If you like how it sounds its pointless to mess with it. If you insert it into your listening chain and the change isn't exactly what you're looking for, but it is close, then it's worth a try unless you'd rather buy several DACs and pick which one you like the best and can send the others back...

    Reversible AKG K701 bass mod

Not surprising to see others doing something similar, it is quite effective and a fairly obvious solution. For the one I posted I'd probably start with the fatter version (.047 / 33K as posted). The more I listen to the fat version the more I like it even for general listening. The alternate...

    Reversible AKG K701 bass mod

Here you go. I placed the bass boost circuit between the vol pot and the input opamp of this headphone amp circuit (which is a very good sounding piece IMO): http://sound.whsites.net/project113.htm. If you build a separate bass boost box, it would go between the DAC analog out and the analog...

    Topping D30 DSD DAC XMOS/CS4398

FWIW, I tried the usual suspects for this sort of thing (LME49720, etc) from the major suppliers and settled on the OPA2227 for use in the D30. The LME49720, OPA2228 and OPA2227 are all worth a listen IMO. Of course ymmv, jmo, etc...

    Reversible AKG K701 bass mod

I ended up designing a Baxandall inspired bass boost circuit that is placed in my headphone amp. I modeled the sound I wanted using my studio software and then used LT Spice to model the circuit needed to duplicate in hardware the boost curve I built in software. Works really well and totally...

    Topping D30 DSD DAC XMOS/CS4398

Sorry to hear that. BTW, there is quite a market on EBAY for non-working "desirable" electronics (cameras, studio gear, etc.), I had no idea until I was shopping for a used camera and a studio ADC/DAC.

    Topping D30 DSD DAC XMOS/CS4398

See my post on page 23, you might be able to fix the dead one.

    Topping D30 DSD DAC XMOS/CS4398

Seems like I read in this thread of someone who used a high current opamp in their D30 and later the D30 died (too lazy to dig for it). To that person I would suggest checking the negative voltage to the opamp. The D30 has a built in voltage converter that takes +15vdc in and converts to -15vdc...

    Topping D30 DSD DAC XMOS/CS4398

I successfully voided my warranty today (lol) on my 3 day old D30 and after socketing it, immediately put in a LME49720 and still found the D30 a bit strident sounding for my tastes. Tried a few of the other 'usual suspects' and still not much change, splitting hairs at best. Then I remembered I...

    Topping D30 DSD DAC XMOS/CS4398

I tried the D30 going from a samsung 8000 TV to my studio monitor setup and hated it. The problem is not the DAC per se, its the fact that the D30 is bright and it brings out all of the compression artifacts in streaming and broadcast. I'm actually using a J-Tech "premium" $22 DAC (Amazon) since...
