I think when you are a newbie (that is to say, dont know anything about what good sound sounds like) you make up your own rules, just going by what you know. In today's low grade consumer electronics (that the masses eat willingly) bass really sets apart bad electronics from each other...

I think with a little time you'll find they completely overwhelm your speaker setup in terms of sound quality (if your reference to the 5500 was logitech..)
