Fixing wow on new turntable?
Yeah, I ended up getting it. I could tell that while it's definitely still a lower-end model, it's much nicer than the Yamaha. The tonearm looks like a better design, and it moves much more fluidly. Plus, the cue damping works. The brand new belt and stylus also made it a winner, especially...- ryangs

Fixing wow on new turntable?
Well, I have a different option now: There's a guy selling his Technics SL-220 in the paper for $40, with new belt and stylus. It has pitch controls, which my Yamaha doesn't. I wondier if it's not even worth putting the $20+ into my Yamaha for a new belt and the damping fluid when I can just...- ryangs

Fixing wow on new turntable?
Thanks for the tips so far! I popped the platter off and cleaned off the belt (and everything it touches) with some cotton balls, swabs, and rubbing alcohol. A lot of black crap came off! And I think it did some good! I don't hear as much pitch shifting as I used to. I need to clarify, when I...- ryangs

Fixing wow on new turntable?
I recently acquired a nice-looking Yamaha P-220 turntable for $8. It's belt-drive, semi-automatic. It has two problems that are bugging me that I hope I can correct: 1) There is a barely noticable wow during playback. Having listened to certain albums enough on CD, I can pick out the slight...- ryangs

The best of both worlds, the iTunes interface with foobar as a backend.
Whenever I try using the foobar pass-through, it always skips to the next track early, as if it thinks the current song is shorter than it actually is. Has anyone else encountered this problem?- ryangs

Zero Headphone Amplifier (Dual CMOY Head Amp)
At $59 plus shipping, this amp is probably cheaper than the cost of parts plus labor, especially if you 'know very little about electronics.' Trust me, I am a novice at electronics, and building even the simplest amp cost me lots of blood, sweat, and tears.- ryangs

Troubleshooting DIP16AMP X1 build
HA! I got it to work! There was a really tiny bit of excess solder that was jumping two of the pins. I can't believe how good it sounds for $15 in parts! (and lots of labor...) Thanks so much for catching my stupid mistakes! And thanks for sharing the design, dip16amp! Edit: Hey, so...- ryangs

Troubleshooting DIP16AMP X1 build
Indeed it was. I had mixed that up with the ground wire, and realized that I had forgotten to actually connect the grounds of the inputs to the ground on the circuit. I did that, and fixed the location of out 2. Still no sound, but the opamp is getting REALLY hot now, and I hear pops/clicks when...- ryangs

Pictures. Don't laugh. Seriously. Warning: the pictures are massive (~1 mb each). http://webpages.charter.net/ryangs/dip16.jpg http://webpages.charter.net/ryangs/dip16-2.jpg Can you tell that I didn't plan my PCB layout at all? Ha! The brown wire in the middle of the board that...- ryangs

Troubleshooting DIP16AMP X1 build
Don't worry, I've been testing it with some old headphones. As for your other questions... I dunno. I just followed the diagram as close as I could. One thing I just noticed is that one of the far outside pins of the pot is grounding against the metal body of the pot (a little too much...- ryangs

Troubleshooting DIP16AMP X1 build
Only if you promise not to laugh... I ended up building it on a protoboard from Radio Shack because the dip socket was just too small to work with. (taking pictures now...)- ryangs

Troubleshooting DIP16AMP X1 build
I just finished building my first amp, a DIP16AMP X1. It kind of looks like a mess, because my soldering skills are less than perfect, but a thorough visual inspection shows that everything appears to be making contact, and nothing is jumping that shouldn't be. When I turn the amp on, I hear...- ryangs
